Joey's POV
I walked closer to the large daisies displayed in a bucket amongst other flowers. They were truly gorgeous, like none I had ever seen before. They had grown so big and bright that it made them stand out so much from the other flowers.
"How much for a daisy?" I asked one of the men standing near that particular stand. He looked in his mid 40's, and he seemed to know everyone else who worked here, which made me think this is a family business.
"Take it." He smiled, he had been looking over at me during the time that I was admiring the daisies, "you have someone on your mind."
I laughed and nodded my head slowly, grabbing a daisy between my fingers, instantly feeling the cold from the water it had been sitting in. It reminded me of Meghan's cold fingers but the flower made me feel all warm and happy inside. Like the warmth in Meghan's heart. "I sure do." I nodded at the man, before turning on my heel and walking back to my car, a goofy smile on my face.
Meghan's POV
"Hope." I repeated, practically feeling the word roll down my tongue. One of the most optimistic words I had said in a while. "wow" was all I could mutter out after the shock from Scar's belief statement.
I watched her figure nod back before realizing how long I had sat in this dark room. "Oh! I should be getting back to Joey!" I said, getting up to catastrophically maneuver myself out the door. I patted around on the door, onbliviously, in attempt to find the door handle. Scar reached in and twsited the handle for me, making a small giggle.
Instantly, light hit my face making me shield my face from the florecent light. After a few tearful blinks, I could see well enough to know what I was doing, apart from the flashes of colours before my eyes. As soon as I looked to my right, a young male nurse jumped back in surprise, as if he had seen a ghost. "Oh, um... are you Meghan?" he asked, shaking his head rapidly.
"Yes?" I replied, wondering what I had gotten into now.
"Oh!' he exclaimed, "We've been looking for you! Come with me... uh, please." he stuttered nervously. What is it about me that made him so uncomfortable and afraid, I wondered before I subconsiously ran a hand across my face. As I felt the rough skin before my finger tips, I remembered. My face was an off-white, similar to what would look like a ghost to the young eye. My bones stood out, my cheek bones, my temples, around my eyes. And the one colour on my face was probably the shade of purple under my eyes or, as of now, my red cheeks filled with embarassment.
"Okay." I mumbeled, playing with the bottom of my t-shirt, which of course drew in the attention of the nurse.
"Oh and you're gonna need to change into scrubs." he remembered, "Let me go get those, can you please head down to room 116? I will be right back." I nodded and turned towards the direction of the room he was reffering too.
Joey's POV
I burst into the hospital, well, I walked through the automatically opening sliding doors with a large smile on my face. It was nice to get outside for a bit, to breathe the fresh air, let it full my lungs and my brain, giving me some time to calm down. To calm down just enough so I could look at what was going on in front of me.
"Meghan Camarena?" I asked the secretary who was shuffling through papers on her desk so without looking up at me, she said,
"116."
I nodded and went to the room. As the numbers grew, I finally got to 116. I took a deep breath before knocking three times on the thick door.
"Come in!" I heard Meghan's sweet voice from inside. I held the arm with the flower behind my back and opened the door with the other hand.
"Meghan..."I started, instantly getting covered by that suffocating blanket of sadness as I saw tubes attached to her in many places and a small tray of needles laid beside her.
I walked over to her and planted a kids on her lips. She leaned up into me and deepened what was only meant to be a small, but meaningful, kiss. I brought my free hand up to her cheek to help support her face. I decided it would be the perfect moment to show her the flower I got for her. I ran my fingers down her hair and with my other hand, I placed the flower between us.
She broke the kiss to look down at her chest where the flower sat. She looked confused at first, worrying me, but in almost no time, her face softened as she took in the beauty of the flower. She brought it up to her nose, smelling it with her eyes closed.
"Thank you.... So much, Joey." She said, her eyes still closed before she looked up at me, "I love it," she smiled, making my heart jump and light up. Like a million fireworks went off right in the centre of my heart making it jump around and light up.
"And I love you!" I replied, touching her nose with the top of my finger, receiving a giggle from her. I walked back to the chair at the front of the room and placed the bag of clothes and other items Meghan brought.
"So what did they tell you?" I asked, motioning to the tubes and needles.
"That I'm dying." She said, bluntly, with a smile.
I frowned, "What's with all these?" I asked, pointing to the many different coloured needles.
"They said something about pain killers and calming medicine. To stop the moving of the cancer in my colon or something."
"Oh..." I nodded.
***
Meghan's POVI looked around the room. At the plain sheets in front of me, at the fake, plastic flower on the stand beside me, and at Joey sleeping in the chair near the door. It looked extremely uncomfortable, even though I tried to convince him to leave me here and go home. I felt my eyes suddenly closing and a weight sat on my chest making me fall into a deep sleep.
I now stood at the foot of my bed, staring into nothing. I didn't feel anything, or hear anything. It felt like my feet didn't even touch the ground, my hands never reaching my side. It felt like I was empty, nothing bothered me, nothing felt like how it used to. It was like an out of body experience, like I was watching myself do the things I did.
I turned right, seeing joey in the same spot on the blue chair. The room was silent, but as I walked closer to Joey's motionless body, I heard screams. The closer I for, the more morbid the screams got, to the point where it made the hair on my arms stand up. It seemed like there was another body inside of Joey making the awful noises. As if someone was trapped inside him.
All at once, there was a scream so loud I felt blood drip from my ears. It took me a second to realize the scream was coming from my own self and the floating that I felt before was all gone. I bent over, grabbing at my chest for it felt like someone stabbed a knife right threw my chef, and then, I came back to earth.
I woke up screaming, sweating, and shaking violently. Everything that Scarlett had said before came crashing down.
"Meghan!?!? Meghan, what's wrong!?!?" I heard a muffled voice through the ringing in my ears.
"Joey!" I spat out, waving my arms in front of my face as I couldn't see anything and it felt like tiny little ants were eating out my eyes.
"I died!"
