Jacob's pov

Three hours were spent tapping my fingers against my chest as I stared up at the ceiling trying to fall asleep. The boy twitching in his sleep didn't help much either, but I had grown used to it in the few weeks he's spent here. Sitting up, I let go of his hand and turn to him. I shouldn't be here right now, I'm needed elsewhere.

"Troye... Troye, wakey, wakey please." I whisper, rocking his shoulder.

He hums a 'huh' and contorts his face as he peeks an eye open at me.

"Good morning." He whispers out of instinct.

I shake my head, "No, no, you can go back to sleep. I just wanted to wake you up to tell you I'm heading back out to help around. I'll be back by dawn."

He peeps an alright and places his hands out. I pick up his hands and kiss his wrists, placing them back where they belong. He's not chained up to a wall, he doesn't need them out.

"Goodnight, sweetheart." I murmur and get up.

I change into a pair of plaid trousers, a white button up, and tossing some suspenders in the mix, making me look like a spitting image of my father. I clean myself up to the best of my sleep-deprived abilities, yawning as I hop down off of the balcony. Making my way to The Circle, I keep my head ducked down and hands in my pockets, weaving through crowds on the streets and sighing in relief when I'm finally there.

When I do arrive though, everything's different; darker. When heads turn to see me, they don't bow down, shy away, or even try to act intimidated. They just hold their stare, their eyes red and filled with tears. I simply nod once and avert my gaze, blinking away my own tears and making my way up the stairs to the Leader's den.

"What are we gonna do? What do we even say?"

"Calm down-"

"How do I calm down? Do you not realise-"

The three shut up once I make myself present, walking through the doorway.

"Hey, Jay."

"Hi Jacob."

"Sir."

I nod, sitting down at the table with them, seated next to Michael who's the quietest of them.

"Don't know what you heard," Lexa starts, only for me to put a hand in the air to silence her.

"It's fine, I understand." I murmur, running my hands through my hair and down my neck.

"You're all panicked, stressed, tired, and probably worn the fuck out. I get it." I sigh.

"I just don't know what we're supposed to do, Jacob. We're down so many now and-"

"Calm down, I've got it taken care of. In fact, you two both go home. Me and Michael got it covered. You deserve breaks." I order, gesturing to the door.

They both oppose, shaking their heads at me.

"I'm staying." They both mutter at the same time, looking at each other and narrowing their eyes before breaking out in small smiles.

"Girlsss, come on, I know you're tired."

Michael sits up a bit, "I'll gladly take their place."

"Michael." I scold fussily, giving him a stern look.

"Whaat? I'm tired, I got a little boy to take care of." He points out.

I groan, rolling my eyes and waving for him to go.
