Jacob's pov

"Sir, you called back. Thank God." Sara sighs in relief.

I hum, "Mhm, when can I get someone down to check my boy again?"

I hear her patting her feet around the infirmary building and humming to herself.

"Uhh, tomorrow morning if it's mandatory, but we're all a little booked right now because of a bomb that diffused in Peckham on a mission. Teams H, I, and J were there, about sixty injured, twenty dead-"

"Is she okay?!" I ask, letting go of the boy's hand in seconds and hanging my legs off the edge of the bed.

She clears her throat, "Yeah, she switched back to the infirmary building last week. If it can wait until everyone is stable, we can have her over in two days."

I bring a hand to my forehead, sighing out in relief.

"Thank God, she's not to go around Section J and H. She is found around any of the boys and she's suspended. Got it?" I threaten, clenching my jaw as I glare at the wall.

"Uh- that may be a little hard, Sir. You know her, she clings to danger just like you. I don't mean to drag you out of hiding but you may have to come down and take control of the situation. We're running in circles here." She mumbles, disappointment laced in her words.

I nod though she can't see me, "Yeah, I'll try to get down there. Thanks, Tancredi."

"No, thank you, boss. I'll call you if anything changes." She chirps and hangs up, leaving me to my thoughts.

Fucking hell Cora, why can't you stay out of trouble?

Turning to the sleeping boy, I sigh under my breath and place a hand on his shoulder.

"Troye, hey, kiddo." I whisper, gently shaking him awake.

He opens his eyes and blinks slowly, looking up at me and cracking a sad smile.

"I'm sorry to wake you and I really am sorry for this but I gotta go for a little while. You can call me at any time if you need me, I can call someone to come watch you if you want. I can-"

"It's okay... are you going to go hurt people?" He speculates, his voice rasping.

I shake my head, "I hope not."

He nods slowly, gulping harshly and wiggling under the blankets, sneaking a hand out and pulling one of them off his body.

"Okay, how many days will you be gone?" He oh-so innocently asks, making me frown.

"N-no Troye, I'll just be gone a few hours. I'm not leaving you alone for days." I murmur, furrowing my brows and wondering what the hell made him think that.

Did his last owner leave for days at a time?

Troye hums, obviously shocked.

"Oh, alright. I'll see you later, want me to clean up or anything?" He offers.

"Nah, you're fine. You can go back to sleep if you want to." I smile down at him sweetly.

He snugs his hand back under the blanket and pulls it up over his shoulder.

"I think I want to read, is that alright?"

I furrow my brows a bit, "Yeah, of course. Why are you getting all feral on me again? Are you okay?"

He nods, "I'm alright. I just don't- don't wanna upset you..." He trails off.

I put my hand back on his shoulder and sigh, "You're fine, don't worry about it. I'll be back before you know it. Remember, you can call if you need me."
