Chapter One: Slave Traders

The excessive night club that Anakin found himself in on this particular night was that of a cover for smug-gling slaves and precious artifacts. If it weren't for his duties as a Jedi, Anakin would have been as far away from here as a whole nother galaxy.

But apparently as a Jedi and the Chosen One, he had to put aside the problems of the past and help others. It was what was expected of him. He had no other choice. Besides as much as he hated slavery, if he could prevent others from enduring what he and his mother had for most of his childhood, then he'd do exactly that.

Anakin glanced across the club at Obi Wan, his Jedi master. Obi Wan was standing normally beside a well known smuggler listening to everything he was saying to his colleague. At least that's what Anakin thought he was doing.

Anakin honestly couldn't wait to put a stop to this smuggling ring that was destroying people's lives. Destroying families. He didn't want other people to suffer the way he did as a child or as a parent.

Obi Wan met his gaze and from the look in his eyes, Anakin was sure he could feel his anticipation from where he stood. Anakin looked away from him and tried to calm himself. He inhaled deeply through his nose before exhaling through his mouth.

When he glanced at Obi Wan again, he gave him an approving nod and inclined his head towards the Zygerian slave trader and the smuggler. It was time.

Anakin began to make his way over to where Obi Wan stood, taking careful strides as not to look too eager and alert the smuggler and the Zygerian. He stopped at the bar a few feet away from Obi Wan and listened to what he was saying.

"Excuse me are you a smuggler and a slave trader?" Obi Wan's voice reminded Anakin of all the times he had lectured or corrected him when he did something wrong.

"Yeah. Who's asking?" The smuggler shot back.

Anakin had moved slightly closer so he could hear better over the music. "The Republic is asking. I need you to come with me."

There was a short silence before the Zygerian slave trader shoved the smuggler towards Obi Wan, flipped the table over and made a break for it. Anakin took that as his cue and stuck his foot out, tripping the slave trader who went sprawling out on the floor.

Turning he saw the Zygerian was now standing over him glaring at him angrily. Anakin wasn't fazed in the slightest. This disgusting creature didn't scare him one bit. Anakin straightened up and lifted his chin, meeting the Zygerian's glare with his own.

"Just who the hell do you think you are?" The Zygerian growled, his fists clenching.

Anakin narrowed his eyes. "Just who do you think you are? Enslaving men, women and children, forcing them to do your every bidding? You can only stoop so low yet...you seem to be at the lowest of the low."

The Zygerian slave trader jabbed his meaty fingers at Anakin's chest, making him stumble a little. "Listen you little runt, I can have you enslaved and punished for that. You need to learn your place."

Anakin felt his temper begin to rise and he struggled to stay calm. "No. You need to learn your place. What gives you the right to enslave people? You're not God and even if you were no one would kriffing worship you." Even though he saw how angry the Zygerian was becoming he continued. "You slave traders are nothing but trash and yet you call us scum. Well news flash, you guys are the scum. Always have and always will be."

"Anakin!" Obi Wan hissed. But it was too late. The Zygerian slave trader grabbed Anakin by the lapels of his black shirt and lifted him off of his feet. Anakin didn't have time to think as he was tossed through the air. He flipped over the bar and scrambled to his feet, pulling his lightsaber and igniting it.

"Jedi!" Gasps filled the bar as well as whispers.

Anakin jumped onto the bar counter and held the lightsaber up, glaring at the slave trader. He was prepared to use it if the creature dared test him. And to be completely honest he was itching to strike him down where he stood but he told himself that it was the Dark side talking. Not him.

Anakin hopped down from the counter, turning his lightsaber off. He went to stand beside Obi Wan who had decided to cuff the Zygerian's hands behind his back.

"You and I will have a talk when we return to the Jedi temple." Obi Wan told him, looking him over with a disapproving glance.

Anakin rolled his eyes but said nothing. As much as he hated it when his master lectured him, he hated it more when he was disappointed with him. Anakin kept his head down as they left the nightclub, unable to look at anything but the ground he was walking on. Anakin realized that he may have gone too far back inside the nightclub. Or at least with his words.

Sure he hated slave traders and slavers but he really shouldn't let his emotions dictate what he did and said. Just because he had been a slave as a child until Qui-Gon, Padmè, and Obi Wan came around all those years ago, didn't mean he had to let his past interfere with his duties. But it was so hard not to though.

And with the Clone Wars going on and a Sith Lord on the loose around the galaxy somewhere, Anakin had enough to worry about. But when it came to anything to do with slaves or slave traders, Anakin sort of lost most control over what he did.

Anakin wasn't surprised when Obi Wan stayed true to his word and found him hanging outside of the Jedi Council room, waiting patiently for him to come out. Obi Wan told Anakin to follow him to an empty room, where they could have some privacy.

"We need to talk about your behavior earlier today." Obi Wan stated.

Anakin nodded silently, glancing up at Obi Wan with a 'get on with it then' expression on his face. Anakin had had enough of Obi Wan's lectures to know what was coming next.

"Really Anakin you must control yourself more. Picking fights with slave traders and people we need to bring in is not the right way." Obi Wan said.

"I didn't pick a fight, master. It's not my fault the words I said were true." Anakin said stubbornly.

Obi Wan studied him for several moments stroking his growing beard. Finally he said, "I, for some reason that I can't fathom, cannot argue with that." He paused before continuing. "You're off the hook this once Anakin. Don't screw it up and make me regret it."

Anakin bower slightly. "I won't master."
