A/N: I have a feeling people might skip this chapter mainly because it's Harper's POV, but there's an important piece of information revealed in this part, so power through, people!
~ [Harper] ~
I wasn't sure what I was expecting to feel as I saw Ev and Liam so close, but I sure wasn't ready to be so... indifferent. In fact, I wouldn't have left if it weren't for their expressions making the air in the room so damn awkward.
I was only a few steps away from the door before I heard Ev call out my name. She ran and popped up in front of me, causing me to stop mid-stride. She looked disheveled, but still gorgeous as hell. There were watered down lines of black that streaked from her bright green eyes and her hair fell onto her back and shoulders in layers of brown waves. I saw what Liam and Mason saw in her. My best friend was the prettiest girl I knew.
"Harper, it's not- we're-" she began to explain, but I held a hand up to stop her and offered a small smile.
"Ev, relax. I'm over it. Go back in there," I told her, holding my smile. After all, I wronged you first. I wronged you worse.
So why couldn't I stop thinking about it? Why couldn't I stop remembering how it felt to be with Mason, to have him touch me and ravage me?
I felt disgusting.
Turned on. But disgusting.
"Are you sure? I didn't mean to hurt you. I just-"
"Ev, trust me. I'm fine. Why would I come here if I still held a grudge? I just wanted to make sure he was okay. He was a good guy, after all," I explained as I rested a reassuring hand on her shoulder. She gave me a grateful smile and turned to head back in. I stood there and watched the door close. Were they together now?
Was Mason okay?
When he and I were together, we were electric. All of my thoughts were his and all of his attention was mine. Our bodies molded together perfectly and it felt like a whole new level of sex as he bit into my shoulder, sucked the sensitive skin on my inner thigh, pounded into me like there's no tomorrow.
Because there really was no tomorrow.
We both knew it couldn't happen again, even though it really was happening again. But after that, I knew I should do my best to avoid him.
And yet, seeing him sitting in a chair down the hall with his face in his hands, resting his elbows on his knees, I couldn't resist but rush over to make sure he was okay. Ev had told me that this was a fight between Liam and him, and while I knew that Liam got the worse injuries, I was still worried about Mason.
I stayed quiet as I sat beside him, sinking into the cushion of the seat, making the chair release air from underneath its stiff leathering. Sensing my presence, Mason turned his head to peek up at me. I fucking swear to God he looked cute as shit. Like a little boy still mad at his mom, but checking to see if she still cared.
"You alright?" I lifted my hand, about to rest it on his arm, but froze as he sat up to look at me. His eyes darted from my eyes to my hand, and then back. Slight amusement laced his expression as he reached over with his hand and gently gave my frozen hand an awkward high five.
"Yeah," he responded softly, and that was all I needed to hear to know that he wasn't. Because Mason isn't quiet. He may be shy, but he wasn't like this, at least not with me. We didn't just fuck. We talked afterward. We held onto each other and had whispered conversations.
