Raising a Galra

Chapter 3

The next morning, Keith and Lance went to the principal to discuss yesterday's incident. They explained the story, while the principal listened intently.

"I see. Well, we'll certainly suspend the other student, but Lana will still have to remain on suspension for injuring him."

Keith didn't like that answer.

"SHE WAS USING SELF DEFENSE! HE WAS HURTING-"

Lance placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Keith....." His eyes basically begged him to calm down. Keith clenched his fists and looked down. If there was anything he hating as much as his daughter hurting, it was Lance hurting.

"We understand." Lance said, getting up.

However, after the news Keith's blood still boiled. An argument ensued in the car.

"THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE LANCE! SHE DID NOTHING WRONG!"

"I understand that. But we need to-"

"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! YOU'RE LETTING THEM PUNISH HER FOR NO GOOD REASON!"

"YOU THINK I LIKE SEEING THIS HAPPEN?! THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD DO TO CHANGE THEIR MINDS!" Lance gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles almost white.

"WELL YOU DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING TO STOP THEM!"

Lance quickly pulled to he side of the road.

"WHAT COULD I SAY KEITH?! THAT WE COULDN'T KEEP HER SUSPENDED BECAUSE IT WASN'T FAIR?! LIFE ISN'T FAIR KEITH! IT NEVER IS!"

Keith was about to yell back until he saw a drop fall onto Lance's lap. Then another. And another. And another. Until tears were flooding down his cheeks. Lance put a hand over his mouth to quiet his sobs.

"Lance..... I-I'm sorry." He hated lashing out at Lance and always felt guilty afterwards. He hesitantly reached for Lance's hand. Lance gladly accepted his apology. Lance wiped his tears and gently squeezed Keith's hand.

"It's gonna be okay." Keith said reassuringly, moving a stray hair out of Lance's face. Lance nodded. After he calmed down for a few minutes they went back home.

They walked in. Shiro and Matt were sitting on the couch watching tv, but Lana wasn't there.

"Where's Lana?" Lance asked.

"She's upstairs." Matt answered. Lance looked a bit worried.

"Don't worry. We've checked up on her every so often. She's okay." Shiro responded, getting up with Matt.

Lance rushed upstairs. Keith sighed.

"Thanks for watching her."

"It's not problem. If you ever need anything give us a call." Shiro said. They left and Keith went upstairs after Lance.

"Lana? It's us. Can we come in?" Lance asked, knocking on the door.

"Sure." Lana mumbled.

They walked into her room and hugged her gently.

"Justice was served...... mostly." Lance said, smiling.

"Thank you. You really didn't have to do that." Lana said, hiding her face in the blanket she was wrapped up in.

"Yes we did. As parents it's our job to protect you." Keith stated, kissing her head.

"I wanna sleep more." Lana lied back on her bed, snuggling her face into her pillow.

Lance and Keith kissed her head before leaving her to sleep.
