*2 years later*

Elementary school went by fast and everything was going fine. However, towards the end of 1st grade, some name calling had begun. It was just a few names like"Freak" and "Alien" throw around here and there. Lana tended to ignore it. Partially because she didn't care, and partially because she didn't want her parents thinking she was weak. They were saviors of the world for god's sake! She couldn't be weak! Could she?

One day, in the beginning of 2nd grade, it had gone a step further.

"Hey look! It's a freak!" a boy shouted, laughing along with some friends.

"I'm not a freak." she mumbled. However, her remark was heard.

"You're purple!" one kid shouted.

"And what are these?" another boy said, pulling on her ears.

"Ow! That hurts!"

"Aw is the baby gonna cry?" The boys laughed at her, the one boy still pulling on her ears.

Tears pouring down her face, she growled, and scratched the boy pulling on her ears. He shouted in pain and stumbled back, his cheek bleeding. Blood ran down his face.

"DONT TOUCH ME!" she screamed. The boys ran for a teacher and Lana was sent to the principal's office.

Lance worked at home, translating business calls for different companies, while Keith was a kindergarten teacher in the town's elementary school.

Lance's cell phone began to ring as he finished up a work call. He hung up his work phone and looked at his ringing cell. He panicked a bit as he saw the number, and quickly answered.

"Hello?"

"Mr. McClain?"

"Yes?"

"Hi. This is Lana's principal. I'm calling in regards to her scratching another student. We tried to get her side of the story but she won't speak. She's suspended for a week and needs to be picked up."

"I-I understand. Thank you, I'll be there soon."

Lance quickly ended the call and rushed to her school. In the car he called Keith and let him know about the situation.

After getting the call, Keith dialed the main office.

"Mr. Kogane?"

"Yeah. I'm gonna need to leave early for a family emergency. Is there any way a sub can be sent down to my class?"

"Of course. One will be sent right away."

"Thank you."

His students looked at him, half concerned, half curious.

"I have to leave early class. When the sub comes, behave, and finish up your worksheets. When you're done, put them on my desk okay?"

A student raised her hand.

"Why are you leaving?"

"Just a small emergency. I'll be back tomorrow." He smiled, feeling grateful that some of his students cared about sudden absence, instead of seeing it as a reward.

Once the sub came down, Keith quickly got to his car, to meet Lance at Lana's school.

After a short talk with the principal, they drove home. They all sat at the kitchen table to talk. Lana already had tears coming down her face. Neither Keith nor Lance were mad. They were concerned. Their daughter was the sweetest person they knew. So why?

"Lana..... what happened? It's not like you to lash out." Keith said, calmly.

Nothing.

"You can talk to us. We just wanna help." Lance stated. He gently pet her ear. A shooting pain shot up her ear. She hissed at him, and even attempted to scratch him.

"Woah!" He quickly pulled his hand away.

"Lana!" Keith was nearly about to scold her, when Lance stopped him.

"Wait Keith wait." They both observed her as she held her ear, wincing, her teeth clenched and eye shut tight.

"Lana let me see your ear." Lance said calmly.

"N-no!"

"Now!"

Lana hated being scolded. She slowly lowered her hand and Lance walked over to her. Small cuts could be noticed, small patches of blood staining  the back of her ears.

"Keith...... come look at this." Lance's eyes widened in shock/ anger. How dare someone hurt his daughter.

Keith walked over, having almost the same reaction as Lance.

"Lana who did this?" Keith asked, his eyes full of worry.

Silence.

"Please talk to us. We're here to help." Lance said, kneeling down to her eye level. Her voice broke as she explained.

"Some b-boys were picking on me. I tried to ignore it b-but then o-one of them started p-pulling on my ears. I told h-him to stop but he pulled harder so I s-scratched him to get free." More tears fell down her face.

"The teachers didn't notice?" Lance asked, eyes full of worry.

Lana shook her head. Keith clenched his fist. He was full of anger and he looked almost ready to kill someone. Lance noticed and gently held his husband's hand.

"Tomorrow morning Mama and I will go straight to your school and talk things out. Okay?" His smile was gently as he spoke. Lana nodded.
