Letter 2: The Unbreakable Truth About Him

The Year 2012 or the “Present”

Agnes:
DING DONG!
After the class, Anton and Harry want to buy some bread in the canteen.
“Harry, let’s go buy some lunch” said Anton while he’s holding his lunch box.
“Oh wait, I’ll go too.” Said Ethan and he stands up.
“Ethan, no lunch today, either?” he said with a worrying face.
“Nope, my mom won’t make me any”
“Yeah? Then welcome to the lunch-buying party. Let’s move”

April 23rd
Ethan becomes a provisional member of the soccer club.
He says his mom doesn’t make him lunch,
So I tell him I’ll make one for him and bring it tomorrow.
But I changed my mind and didn’t make him lunch.

Elize and Mandy are staring to my lunch.
“Your lunch looks so nice, Agnes” said Elize.
“Is that a koala?” said Mandy
“Yeah it is”
“Amazing, nothing less from an artisan like you” said Elize.
“Wait Anton, you have a lunch” said Ethan
“Yeah but it’s not enough” he replies
“Because you’re a giant right?” said Elize and teases him
“Shut up, Elize and besides Harry’s mom prepares lunch for him every morning too”
“That’s right, she leaves money on the table so we’re the same boat Ethan” Harry replies and Anton smiles.
Every one of us laughs same as Ethan.
“Hahahaha, you’re so hilarious Harry!!” said Elize
“That’s true! It’s ready every time!” said Harry
I suddenly remember the letter said yesterday.

Now, ten years in your future,
Ethan is no longer with us.

Ethan leaves us? But how? I couldn’t imagine it.
After class hours, Elize and Mandy invite me to go shopping.
“Agnes, let’s go shopping on the way home” she asks
“Yeah okay” I reply
“Hey Ethan, you free today? You want to come watch our soccer practice?” he asks to Ethan
“Huh? Why?”
“I heard Ethan that you’re…. better than me at soccer!!” he said and he basically grabs his arm.
“Right, Agnes?” Anton said with smile in his face.
Oh gosh, Ethan looks angry at me!
“U-um…”
“Agnes….” Ethan said to me with a weird look.
“Y-Yes?”
“You big mouth” he replied and he suddenly knocks my head.
Elize laughs like it is funny.
“What the heck was that Ethan? ‘You big mouth! Konk.’ Elize asks.
“What do you mean?” he replied
“It’s that a thing in your area?” she asks again
“Whatever”
“All right, time for soccer Ethan. It’s all good. Let’s get going” said Anton and he grabs his arms again.
“Huh? Where?” he asks
“The talent our team’s future depends on is you!” he replies
“Whoa, wait a second…. Wait…”
“The world is waiting for you Ethan”
A button falls and rolls on the floor so Elize picks it up.
“Hey guys, You lost a button” said Elize while wavering the button
The two boys ignore her.
“Hey Gentlemen!!” she yelled.
“What?” Anton replies.
Anton was looking in his uniform, finding something.
“It’s mine. It had been loose since this morning” said Anton.
“Want me to sew it back on?” I ask.
“Seriously? You can do that?” he replies
“Sure” I said while I getting my sewing box.
“I keep this sewing box with me” I said
“As expected Agnes” said Elize
“Then would you do it for me?” he asks
“Sure. No problem”
“Thank you!”
So I start to sew Anton’s button to his uniform.
“After you’re done with that, you should come watch us play Agnes. Ethan will be there too
”Agnes will go shopping with us later” said Elize
“Go shopping on Sunday will you? I wanna go too” he replies
“No boys allowed. This is for girls only”
“Grrr.. Agnes will you come to watch for us?” he asks me
“Sure, I’ll go”
“Thanks”
After I sewed, we come to the soccer field to watch their game and Ethan was there too. Looks like he’s enjoying the soccer match.
“Go Go Ethan!!! We’re cheering for you!!” Elize shouted.
When the ball passes to Anton, he passes the ball to Ethan and he comes for a goal. The crowd goes wild. Oh crap, he is so cool and amazing. My heart was fluttered. After the match, Anton wants Ethan to join the soccer club.
“That was great Ethan. So you can play?” Elize asks.
“Yes since elementary” he replies
“That explains it”
Anton and Ethan covers with sweat so maybe, they are tired for now.
“Hey, did you notice Ethan made that goal because of my great pass? Right Ethan?” Anton says
“Yeah” he replies
“But really, the one who scores the goal is cooler” said Mandy.
“Hey!!”
“All right so you wanna join now Ethan?” he asks
“Huh? I never want to!”
“What? But your talent will go to waste if you didn’t join! Play with us!” shouted him
“But….”
“I’m telling you, you’ll be regular in no time. The coach said that I’m the king of soccer because I know I can play”
“No one says that” said Mandy.
“You can be a temporary player for a while. But the practice starts in morning”
“What? But I can’t get up in the morning. I could never do morning practice” he replies
“The upperclassmen want you to join, too!! You’ve got the stamp of approval! You can make it Okay? Okay?” he said while holding his hand tightly.
After 10 minutes of waiting, Ethan has decided.
“Okay fine, just a temporary player” He said.
“ALL RIGHT!!!” shouted Anton with his arms spread.
“Thank you Ethan! This is going to be fun right?”
“Right”
“Congrats Ethan!!” said Elize
“Oh by the way, your uniform is completely sewed now” I said
“Oh thanks”
I give it back his uniform and he is completely happy.
“Agnes you are such a mom you know?” Ethan said.
“Right, she also makes her own lunch too. Not like your lunch Anton. It’s huge like a giant.” said Elize
“Hey shut up!!” he yelled her.
“Seriously, what do you eat when you’re hungry?” Mandy asks
“Sometime I try to trick myself by drinking two liters of cola” he replies.
Ethan is so close beside me. What should I do??
“Can you make lunch for me Agnes?” he asks to me.
“Sure. I’ll make you one tomorrow”
“That’s okay. I was just kidding”
I was washing the dishes and I suddenly remember what he said that make him lunch. Should I make him? But he said he was just joking. It might bother him. Yeah. I’d better not. After washing the dishes, I go to my room and read the letter.
