Letter 8: The Reason That I Don't Want You To Invite Him

The Year 2022 or the “Future”

Agnes:
Ethan’s grandmother lends their photo album so we can see the pictures of Ethan’s family and him when he was a little child.
“Wah! He’s so cute! Ethan’s so small!” shouted Elize.
“He is in elementary school.” I said and I think he’s so cute.
“He still looked the same though.” Mandy said.
“Ahahaha you’re so right.” Elize replies.
“Excuse me but was it… really an accident?” Ethan replies and he face Ethan’s grandmother.
“We want to know the truth right after the accident ten years ago. The police said they couldn’t be 100% sure it was an accident.” Elize said.
“They came and asked me if he had changed, and if he’d talked about dying.” Mandy said.
“But afterwards, I heard from the police that it was an accident that the bike of Ethan was riding broke. The brakes failed and he flew into the road and it was all an accident. We thought it was strange the story changed so suddenly.” Harry said.
“It’s…. time to tell them, Ethan.” Grandmother said and she faces towards Ethan’s picture.
“This is Ethan’s last message. I found it his room the day after it happened.” Grandmother said and she gives us a piece of paper that Ethan’s message for her.

I’m sorry Grandma. I’m sorry that I hurt you.
If something happens to me, please tell everyone that it was an accident.

“It looks like Ethan rode into the truck’s path himself. I thought, why would you do something like that? I would have gladly given you anything, yet those regrets too late.” Grandma said to us.
Ethan, sorry. I am so sorry. Everyone cried after she said.
“Oh yeah, here, this is from the time capsule we opened earlier. We wanted to give you this picture of him.” Anton said and he gave the picture to Grandma.
“He looks happy.”

We cried so much. We promised that we would all smile that day but it’s so sad without him.

The Year 2012 or the Present

Agnes:
I was lying down in my bed and I think such things that happened last night.
I guess it’s all thanks to this hair clip that we held hands. The future me didn’t get a hair clip so certain things are probably different, but Ethan actually smiled.

There was a text message for me from Elize.

Hey Agnes, we’re meeting at 17:30 for the festival at the flower clock park.
Ask Ethan if he can came too. Thanks.

Gosh, I guess I’ll text him.

Ethan, sorry to bother you during summer break.
Can you come to the festival on the 4th?
Elize and Mandy are coming too.

I want to come. Agnes, are going to wear a dress?

My reply for him gosh:

Yes. Elize and Mandy said they were going to so I will too.
Ethan, are you going to wear some fancy?

Ethan’s reply:

I’ll wear one if I have one, but I probably don’t.

August 4th
The six of you go to the festival.
Even though he said he probably didn’t have one,
Ethan comes wearing some fancy clothes.
There were so many people that we got separated so Ethan and I ended up alone.
