NOT ON PURPOSE

Chapter 6    Fire

Her eyes moved from one place to another simultaneously. She stood in the edge of the cafeteria, trying to find an empty table. With the tray in her hand, she instantly walked towards a table in which a group of guys have left.

SeulKyung placed her tray slowly on the table, scared if she'd spill her drink. She then sat on a chair and started digging her food.

It has been awhile since she last came to the cafeteria. She usually roamed around school, wasting her recess time.

She looked around the cafeteria and saw every kids were eating with their friends. She realized that she was the only one who was eating alone.

" If only YeonJae was here " SeulKyung spoke to herself as she exhaled a deep sigh. Her friend used to eat with her. SeulKyung never been lonely when YeonJae was still alive. But now that she's not, SeulKyung finds nothing fun in her life anymore.

She suddenly smelled something burnt. It immediately kept her thoughts away.

A woman with white apron, came out of the kitchen and yelled, " Everyone, out of the cafeteria now! "

That's when black smoke started to fill the whole cafeteria. The kids became very panic. So, they desperately used the one and only exit door of the cafeteria. The door opened wide enough to reach its limit but it still could only fit 3 person once.

The kids started pushing one another to get through the crowd quickly. They have became selfish.

SeulKyung stood up, leaving her leftover foods towards the exit door. The smoke she kept inhaling has made her lungs weak. She walked slowly since she could barely inhale oxygen anymore. She kept coughing all the way.

" Hurry up, Nanny! " NaHyun yelled at SeulKyung as she pushed her aside. SeulKyung fell on the floor, still coughing.

SunWoo walked past her then he suddenly stopped. He turned back and looked at SeulKyung. He hesitated to help her. SunWoo saw NaHyun already left him meters behind. He had no choice but to help her anyway.

Hastily, he walked towards SeulKyung and pulled her arm to stand up. SeulKyung forced herself to do as he said. SunWoo held her wrist and led her way out.

The smoke slowly made his sight unclear. His eyes became teary as ash got in it and his body started sweating due to the strong heat. SeulKyung still coughing. She couldn't help herself but to cough.

They both managed to escape however.

SunWoo instantly let go of SeulKyung's wrist as he saw the crowd was watching him. It got them embarrassed.
