*Two days later*
"It's time to wake up, milady," Tulip says.
"You know, you can just call me Jez," I say as I sit up.
"That's alright, milady. The Queen is waiting for you to come down for breakfast," Tulip says.
"Can you tell her to eat first? I need to shower," I say.
"She insists that she waits," Tulip replies.
"Then I'll be quick," I say. She nods nod I head into the bathroom. I take a quick shower and wrap a towel around myself. I walk into my closet and choose the most casual clothes I can find. My phone dings. Since I got a new one, I logged into my old number. Although I can't text, I can receive all of the texts I get. It's odd really.....
I step out and go to Raven's room. I see Aj in there, carrying Raven.
"Hey," I smile.
"Sleep well?" He asks.
"Yeah. When'd you wake up?" I ask him.
"A while ago. I came in here to get Raven ready." Aj says.
"You don't have to do that," I tell him.
"I want to," He smiles, kissing the top of Raven's head.
"Let's go get some breakfast," I tell him. He nods and we all head to the dining room. On the table is a buffet filled with food.
"Ah! Here you are. Now we can eat!" Grandma says as Grandpa digs into his food.
"You do know that you can eat before we come right?" I ask, taking a seat.
"Nonsense, sweetheart," Grandma says. There's a bit of comfortable silence until Grandma speaks up.
"I've decided to sign you two up for school," she says. I choke on my food.
"What?!" Aj and I ask in unison.
"You two will be going to the Vitae prep. It's the school for children of the richest so you would fit right in," she says. Then she looks at Aj for a little. "Although your friend needs a little bit of effort to fit in."
"I don't want to go to a rich school," I whine.
"Oh, you'll fit right in!" Grandma waves me off. Then a proud look goes onto her face. "Besides, I'm having Tulip teach you how to act and look!"
"Grandma..." I trail off.
"It's only fit for a princess," She says. I push my plate forward.
"I'm not hungry anymore," I say.
"But dear, you barely touched your food!" She says.
"I've lost my appetite," I say, standing up and heading back to my room. When I get to my room, I open the window and run my hand through my hair. I take a few deep breaths.
The door opens.
"You okay?" Aj asks.
"Where's Raven?" I ask him.
"I put her down in her room. Tulip will take care of her," he steps forward. "You okay?"
I take a couple of deep breaths.
"Yes. I'm fine," I say.
"No you're not," he says.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I say. My phone dings as if I got a notification. I look to, hoping Aj wouldn't notice. Unfortunately, he does. He turns to look at the device and walks towards it.
"No, Aj don't," I say. He picks it up and frowns as he scrolls through.
"What is this?" He asks. I look down, not meeting his eyes.
I know exactly what the messages say.
She's a b*tch
She should just kill herself
She doesn't deserve Aj
What does Aj see in her?
She should just jump off a bridge
Oh whoops. It appears she's in this group chat
Oh no I didn't know that!
*Jezamine Nguyen has been kicked out of the conversation*
"Why didn't you tell me about this?" Aj asks.
"It doesn't matter. I'm fine," I tell him.
"No you're not. You can tell me what's wrong." He says with kind eyes. I take another deep breath.
"I can't take it anymore. The text messages shouldn't be getting to me but they are. I should be able to ignore my childhood after all this time but I can't. And I know it's only been two days since we've been here, but Grandma wants me to be someone I'm not and I can't take it. I know it's stupid....how weak I'm being but I can't take it," I say. He walks over to me and pulls me into a hug. I put my arms around him and bury my face into his chest.
"We'll get through this," he says as we pull back from the hug. "Together."
There's a knock on the door. Tulip is at the doorframe so I sniff a bit and wipe my face.
"Yes Tulip?" I ask.
"The queen would like me to start helping you with your...um...act," Tulip says.
"Is it alright if I stay with you two?" Aj asks.
"The queen never said anything against it," Tulip shrugs. "Alright, let's begin."
