The carriage brought us home at exactly 3:08, following the schedule.
"Oh, so you finally decided to follow the schedule!" Grandma shouts. I take a deep breath, trying to be patient.
"I apologize Grandma. I am not a morning person," I say.
"Save it. You two go up to your rooms and change into your home dwelling clothes. I want you to be working on your homework until dinner time. You are not allowed to leave your rooms until then," she says. I clench my jaw and turn to leave. Aj jogs up to me to match my pace.
"No offense but your grandma is-"
"Exactly like those robots at school? I agree," I snap. He sends me a pitiful look which causes me to stop. "I'm sorry for snapping at you. It's just that Grandma gets on my nerves by the way she's acting."
"It's alright," Aj says, pulling me into a nice hug. "We'll go home soon."
"Yeah. Well, we should go to our rooms now before Grandma has another fit," I say, rolling my eyes. He nods and we head up. I change into the pants and t-shirt that I packed myself and started to work on homework.
I swear...this school is trying to make the students stupid. Considering how we learning algebra 1 right now....
It's like they're trying to keep the stereotypes of the jocks and 'perfect' people to have a low IQ it's absolutely insane. I finish the homework in less than an hour and then head to Raven's room.
"Hey, Rave," I coo to her. She reaches out for me and I pick her up. Then the door opens and I jerk around to see Aj standing there.
"I see we had the same idea," he smiles.
"Aj! Aj!" Raven claps. I smile and hand her to him. He happily takes her and starts bouncing her.
"The homework was too easy," he says.
"I know right?" I agree.
"Well we have an hour left until dinner. Wanna hang out?" Aj asks and I mockingly gasp.
"Did you just as the high and mighty princess to break her schedule to 'hang out' with a mere peasant?!" I ask in mock horror.
"I a-apologize m-miss princess! I should've known a p-p-peasant like m-me wouldn't be able to be in the p-presence of a member of r-royalty like y-you!" He says, going along with it. I roll my eyes and we walk to the music room in our floor. Luckily the room is soundproof so no one could hear us.
"Could you sing me a song?" I ask him.
"Sure, what song?" He asks. I shrug.
"Any," I tell him. He thinks for a little bit.
"There's this one song. It has a nice tune and the lyrics really relate to a.....friend's....situation," he says.
"What song?" I ask, cocking my head to the side. He smiles and grabs a guitar. He starts picking at the strings beautifully as the beginning.
"She would not show that she was afraid, but being and feeling alone was too much to face.
Though everyone said that she was so strong, what they didn't know is that she could barely carry on,
But she knew she would be okay, so she didn't let it get in her way.
Sometimes it all gets a little too much, but you gotta realize that soon the fog will clear up, and you don't have to be afraid, because we're all the same, and we know that sometimes it all gets a little too much,"
He continues tot sing the whole song. I listen to him and smile at his beautiful voice. Eventually he finishes and I clap for him.
"That was amazing," I say, reaching over to give him a hug. He hesitates for a beat, and then hugs me back.
"Thanks," he says.
"You said that song reminded you of a friend. Who was the friend?" I ask him as I pick up Raven into my lap.
"Nobody you know," he answers with a smile. I shrug it off and we continue talking, playing instruments, and singing. Eventually it's 5:25 and we sneak back into our rooms so they can call us for dinner. Right on time, they call us out. Aj and I greet each other in front of the guards and then walk with them to the dinner table.
"I see that you made it in time," Grandma bitterly says.
"Yes we did," I say with a fake smile. Then Aj and I sit across from each other. Raven is in a high chair on the right of Aj and Grandpa is seated on the left of me. At the end of the table is Grandma. The rest of the long table is filled with guards on their dinner break along with the maids and butlers. At least she's kind enough to do that.
"So kids, how was school?" Grandpa asks.
"Well we aren't that used to the upper class schools so it was a bit....uncomfortable," I say truthfully.
"Ah, I see. What about you, Aj?" Grandpa asks.
"Uncomfortable for me as well, sir," Aj answers.
"I'm sorry to hear that. I hope as the days pass, you two will get more used to it," Grandpa sincerely says.
"Of course she's gonna get used to it! She's a princess. It's the boy I'm worried about. One wrong move and that would be terrible for us. People will think of us as 'the King and Queen who had to take care of a rebel'. Absolutely tragic," Grandma says, making me glare at her without her noticing.
"Now dear, what did we speak about?" Grandpa asks.
"Not insulting the peasant boy. Although I don't see how that's an insult," Grandma replies.
"It's an insult because it's rude," I say.
"Jezamine, it was not your place to speak," Grandma says, narrowing her eyes at me.
"It's my place if you're insulting Aj," I answer.
"It is wrong for a girl to posses such rude manners! You must know better," Grandma says before standing up and storming away. Grandpa put his face in his hands and muttered something along the lines of:
"She wasn't like this when I married her."
Then he excused himself and went after her.
"Thank you," Aj says to me.
"You would-no, you did-do the same for me. So don't mention it," I smile and he smiles back.
