"Gah!" I say as Tulip pulls the cursed corset tighter. "Why do I have to wear this infernal device?!"
"Because," Tulip strains, pulling it more and tying it. "The Queen wants you to be a size 2."
"Why does it matter?" I ask as she ties it.
"Because, she believes that size matters," She answers, taking as seat and sighing as she finished.
"But it doesn't," I point out.
"Not at all," Tulip agrees. Then she helps me with the rest of my black, lace, floor length dress.
"Okay, well Aj is outside now, waiting for you," She says, opening the door.
"Wow. You look.....wow," he says.
"I'm in a corset and I can't breathe," I point out.
"Then blech. You look blech. I almost threw up from the sight of you," he jokes, making me roll my eyes.
"You look very nice," I tell him.
"Why thank you. Now milady, may I escort you to the ball downstairs?" He asks, giving a little bow and offering me his hand.
"You may," I answer, taking his hand and walking towards the elevator with him. We arrive st the ballroom that's already packed with people.
"Aha! Here you are!" Grandma says walking over to me. Then she looks me up and down and frowns.
"Are you wearing your corset? You're looking a little round," she says. I plaster a fake smile on my face.
"Of course I'm wearing my corset Grandma. Tulip pulled me into a size 2," I tell her.
"Well next time tell her to make it tighter," she says. "Now come along, we must introduce you to everyone. Your little peasant-I mean date-can stay here."
"Go find Maddie and Sirena," I whisper to Aj as I let go of his hand. He nods and starts looking around.
"Ms. Gray! How are you? This is my granddaughter Jezamine," Grandma says, leading me to a woman that are about her age.
"Ah hello! I am Merida. Nice to meet you sweetheart," she says, shaking my hand. I smile at her and her kindness. "You are so beautiful. What are you planning to be when you grow up other than a princess of course. A model? A housewife?" Haha spoke too soon.
"No, I would actually like to be a doctor," I say, making both her and my grandma gasp. What? I'm a teenager that's been deprived of normal teenager things. It was about time I start doing things to piss off my guardian.
"That is nonsense! Women belong in the kitchen, not the operating room!" Ms. Gray exclaims.
"I presume that's true. After all, the kitchen holds all the knives," I say. Her face goes into shock as Grandma glares daggers at me. Grandma pulls me aside.
"That is not how you speak to these people!" She hisses. "You must speak to them with kindness and politeness! You are not to mention any of your preposterous dreams!"
"Yes Grandma," I say obediently. Then she takes me to the next person.
"Annabelle! How are you? This is my granddaughter, Jezamine," She introduces me to the middle aged woman.
"Hello," she says, offering me her hand. I take her hand and shake it.
"Hello, Ms. Annabelle," I say politely.
"It's actually, Mrs. Annabelle," she corrects.
"Oh really? Congratulations!" Grandma says.
"Yes yes. And he is right over there," she says, pointing to a man who looks half her age.
"Cougar," I cough, making both Annabelle and Grandma glare at me.
"I'm sorry?" Mrs. Annabelle asks.
"Oh I didn't say anything," I answer.
"Well we should get going. More people to meet," Grandma smiles fakely, yanking my wrist to the next person. I see Aj with Serena and Maddie as I pass by. He catches my eye and I mouth 'elevator' to him. He nods and they head to the area where the elevator is.
"Ah, Ambassador Jacqueline! So glad you can make it. Is this your daughter?" She asks.
"Yes she is. And she has told me that she goes to school with your granddaughter," The Ambassador says. "Dear, you're looking quite round. I suggest you lay off the burgers at school."
"Well it's better than starving myself with a salad," I fakely smile at Paris.
"See Daddy? This is the kind of bullying that I was talking about!" Paris says on the verge of tears.
"You have no right to speak to my daughter like this! You are too unfit to be a princess! You are fat, ugly, weird, and you do not care what people think of you!" He exclaims.
"Was that supposed to be insulting? Because all those words sounded like compliments to me," I say.
"Unfit!" He exclaims.
"You know, it's no wonder that people in America have never heard of you. Who would want to?" I ask.
"That is enough!" Grandma says. "You are to march up to your room without dinner and stay in there until tomorrow! You must lock your door and nobody is allowed in or out!"
"Alright, peace!" I say, running off as fast as I can in 7 inch heels. I meet up with the three at the elevator and we all go in. I lead them to my room and lock the door.
"Okay Maddie, you can change out of that cursed thing behind the divider, Sirena in the bathroom, and I'll change in the closet. Aj, you are so lucky you don't have to wear a corset," I say. He laughs a little and the girls do as I instructed. I change into comfortable pajama shorts and an oversized T-shirt that I brought from America.
America......I miss it.
