"Honey, Killian, Killian, wake up," I over hear someone say. I start to open my eyes up and I sit up and looked around my room. I sighed in relief. It's like it's always been; such a weird dream I had. I looked up and my mom gave me a weird look. "Honey you ok?" I nod. "Yeah it's just, forget it, what's wrong mom?" She smiles and hands me a big envelope.

"It's from your medical school." I gasp. I quickly opened it and my heart soared. "Killian what does it say?" I smiled. "I got in mom, I got into medical school," I say and she hugs me. "I am so proud of you Killian." I smile. "I can't believe I got in." She nods. "Thank you mom I know you had to sacrifice a lot and so has dad, but now once I finish I will be able to help you both out more."

She smiles and starts to tear up as she looks at the empty bed next to me. "I'm sure your sister would have been proud of you Killian." I nod. Around my 2nd year my sister came about with a horrible illness, she suffered so much and we spent all our time at the hospital and it broke my heart. I was studying to become a physical therapist but after losing my sister and not being able to help her I changed routes and focused on getting into medical school.

I want to become a  cardio thoracic surgeon so I can help people and honor my sister Marie. I continued to read and gasped when I saw the date. "Mom they had sent this three weeks ago." She gasps. "Killian I just got it this morning." I scoffed. "I bet you it was Fiona, she probably kept it, you know that landlord hates us." She sighs.

"And what's the matter son?" I sigh. "I have to send in my deposit for housing by today at 3." "Try calling them." I nod and ran to the neighbors house to borrow the phone. I called but I was put on hold and the wait time is an hour. That's freaking ridiculous so I hung up. "Mom I'm going to drive up there." She sighs. "Are you sure?" I nod. "It's nearly a four hour drive." I sigh. "I need the housing I can't commute, and I will not lose this, you know how much it cost us for me to finally get into medical school."

She nods. "Tell dad I'm sorry, hopefully he can find a ride home. And here," I say as I hand her a $20 bill. "Buy food for you two." "Son and what about you?" I smile. "Don't worry about me." She hugs me. "I know we haven't always been able to give you the best son but I am so proud of you Killian." I start to tear up and I nod.

"Love you mom." She smiles then kisses my forehead. "Drive safe son and I love you." I nod. I grabbed my stuff and made my way downstairs. That's when Fiona walked out of her home as I made the last step. "Going somewhere Killian?" I scoff. "You knew that I got accepted and withheld my acceptance letter." She smiles.

"I do not know what you mean. I just do hope you're able to get housing." I scoff. "One day we will leave this horrible place and get as far away from you." She smiles deviously. "Keep telling yourself that darling." I scoff. "Drive safe, shame if you get stuck in traffic." I made my way to my car and got inside.

Three hours passed by and I hit traffic. The vile woman, I swear she's a witch or something. I hate her so much, always giving my family a hard time just because we are poor. I look at my watch and it's 1:30pm. I was getting a bit impatient. I then looked at my bracelet and I felt peace.

I then grabbed it and smiled. I still don't remember how I got it but it's been my good luck charm all throughout my university classes. I love it. Time passes by and we moved about a mile in 30 minutes and I still have an hour drive left. I'm good I still have time.

Time passes by and it's 2:58pm. I'm 5 minutes away from the university and I make my way to the parking lot. I park and ran to the housing office. I get there and they closed the office. I start to knock on the window and no one was answering. That's when a young lady comes and does the same thing.

That's when they post a paper on the window. "Housing is now full for this upcoming year." We both gasp and stood there shocked beyond belief. I go sit down and I covered my face. This was not fair, I started to get mad but then I looked at my bracelet and all of a sudden I felt peace again. My do I love when that happens.

That's when the young woman comes and sits next to me. "You weren't able to get a spot for housing huh?" She looks at me and nods. "Yeah, I never got my acceptance letter until today." I nod. "Same here." She nods. "I guess we are both homeless." She laughs. "Caitlin Snow," she says as she extends her hand. "Killian Jones," I say as i shake her hand. She smiles.

"First year?" She nods. "Same here Caitlin." "Well I guess there goes my dream of being a surgeon." I gasp. "That's what I want to be too." She laughs. "Then we both won't be able to live here." I laugh. "You live far away?" She nods. "Yeah I live four hours up north from here." I laugh. "And I live four hours south from here." She laughs.

"How's the apartments around here?" She shrugs. "I hope I don't sound too forth coming but how about we go looking for apartments nearby, I mean we are going to become classmates anyways, why not be roommates?" She laughs. "Don't worry I'm not a murder." She laughs.

"If you don't mind me asking do you work or do you have financial aid?" "Well I have some financial aid but I've been looking for a job in this area." I nod. "I want to know so we know our budget." She nods. "No it's all good, great thinking." I smile.

"Well why don't we go and check out the nearby apartments?" She nods. We met up with our cars and drove around the university. We found an apartment complex about 15 minutes away and we were able to get the last available space for this upcoming summer.

It was a one bedroom apartment with one bathroom but that worked for us. We walked back to our cars and smiled. "I guess your plan worked Killian, I will be able to become a surgeon after all." I smile. "It's not good to give up so easily, I mean we've come this far." She nods.

"Well I guess we are roommates now." I smile. "Yes we are, future Dr Snow." She blushes. "Thank you future Dr Jones." I smile. "Here take my phone number I know we will be starting in three weeks so it's best to keep in touch." I smile. "Can I have yours?" I scratch the back of my ear.

"I don't have a phone." She gasps. "Really?" I nod. "Yeah.." She nods. "Then I guess you will be keeping mine." I smile. "You can always email me, I can go down to the library and check it." She nods. "How about I email you everyday at around 2pm?" I nod. "I would like that." She smiles.

"You wanna grab a bite to eat before you get on the road?" I smile. "I would love that but I have to get back home, my mom isn't doing so well." She nods. "Well Killian it was great meeting you, I am looking forward in spending time with you." I smile. "Likewise Caitlin." She smiles.

"Drive safe." I smile. "You too be careful." She nods and gets in her car then drives away. My stomach started to growl but I legit had no money. It's ok I need to lose weight anyways and besides it's not like I haven't spent days without eating. I get in the car and started to make my way home.
