"So, you finally realized the sky is blue?" Bryson asked the second we were settled into the white limousine that would lead us to the reception that was scheduled to be held at the local botanical gardens. His eyes settled on me and I knew he wanted more than anything for that to be the case. After looking into his green eyes for a second longer, I could see nothing but pure aspiration that the 'truth' I, now, have is that the sky is blue. Yet, behind the look of a deep hope, I saw guilt.
"You and I know that is not the case, Bry Bry." I stated as a wicked grin materialized on my face. I turned a little in the leather seat towards Bryson. I leaned forward and reached out. Bryson flinched back, like a child flinching away from a mother's angry hand. I chuckled as I grabbed his tie. "I'm not going to hurt you," I proclaimed as I adjusted his royal blue tie. I tightened the tie, a tad too tight. In doing so, his eyes popped, slightly, knowing I could go against my word and attempt to strangle him with his tie. "At least not, yet," I stated and then put my hands in my lap.
Bryson loosened his tie a little bit. "Elle, I can explain-"
I raised my right hand, halting his words, before dropping my hand back down. "Time cannot be wasted with the lie that is about to pop out of your mouth ... That is what you were going to say, Bry Bry, right? A lie. After all you seem really good at creating fibs and, I must say, you are even better at fooling people into believing them. You would have a great career in politics, however, that is neither here nor there. The point is, you swindled me into marrying you-"
Bryson cut me off, "Elle, I didn't mean-"
Four words into him speaking, I interrupted. "Bry Bry, I really, really don't want to hear it. All you need to know right now is, if you want a wife, well, you are going to get one."
Looking at me with bewilderment, Bryson spoke, "Huh?"
I rolled my brown eyes, "I'm going to be your wife, like you wanted. I promise none of that fake shit of pretending that I'm an idiot and pregnant. Or even pouring a ton of salt in your food. Or trying to seduce you .. Blah, blah, blah, the list goes on. Fact is, I will not do that. I will be your wife for as long as you need me to. However, there will be honesty."
Bryson was silent as his eyes studied me, "Honesty?"
Holding in a chuckle that he missed my confession of what I did to him, I responded. "Yes, I want answers. Straight answers - no lies."
Remaining as still as a rock, Bryson didn't utter a single vowel. I could tell, just by the look in his eyes that he was thinking long and hard about what I said. "...What do you want to know?"
"How about an answer for why you wanted me to marry you?"
Bryson looked away from me, "I told you the night of the wreck why I was doing this."
"For money. You were doing this all for money? Marrying me, just so you can get some inheritance. Try again, because you are not fooling me. I know there is more to this, because you wouldn't go through all this trouble, with me, for money."
Locking eyes with me, Bryson gave a dry chuckle. "You don't know me, Elle."
"Is it because of my dad?" I asked, ignoring his statement that I didn't know him. "Is it because he denied your mother insurance?"
The second the last question left my mouth, Bryson stiffened in his seat as he lost some color in his face. "... I'm not going to talk about this, with you." He bitterly replied before turning his head and looking out the car window.
"Yes, you are. I deserve answers."
"You don't deserve anything, Eric," Bryson spat as he resorted back to his old habit of calling me by the wrong name. Turning back to look at me, he continued. "You lied to me, too. You got your memory back several days ago. Then you went around pretending to be pregnant and naive. You, Elka, had the chance to drop out of this wedding. Yet, you went through with it. Just tell me what you want. Is it the money - do you want a portion of it? I mean, that has to be why you went through with the wedding - for the money."
His pissed expression didn't even begin to topple mine. "Money! Really?! I didn't do it for the fucking money! I did it so you can get what you want!"
"Why the hell do you care what I want?"
"I don't!" I shouted at him. "I wanted you to get the money, you so desired ... so ... so I could figure out what all this was for."
Bryson gave another dry chuckle. "You were doing this just to figure out what I was going to do with the money? Try again because you are not fooling me. I know there is more to this because you wouldn't go through all this trouble, with me, for curiosity." Bryson stated as he twisted my words.
Deciding to do the same, I replied, "You don't know me, Bryson."
He cocked his head back a little. "Fine. You want to know what I am going to do with the money? Then, set up a private meeting with your father."
I raised an eyebrow, "Only if I can join this meeting."
Bryson nodded once, "I saw that coming ... and, yes, you can join because the meeting will explain what I'm going to do with a large portion of my money I'm inheriting..."
I sighed, "Okay, we will meet with him tomorrow."
Bryson gave me a smile, "Sorry, Erin, your curiosity is going to have to wait a week."
Looking at him, like he had three heads, I shook my head, "A week? Why do we have to wait a week? I can schedule us in tomorrow to see him and-"
"Eval, we can't see him until next week because you and I have a honeymoon to go on," Bryson said with a smirk that stretched from ear to ear. I could see the humor dancing in his eyes.
"Honeymoon? Ha! You funny."
Bryson shook his head, "I paid good money for the plane tickets and events I have scheduled. We can see your father when we get back, trust me, it kills me more than you know that we can't see your father for another week. However, I have a feeling time will pass by fast," Bryson stated as he gave me a wink.
I stuck out my tongue, for a second, in disgust because I could read in between the lines on what he was hinting at. "No way, Jose."
The back door to the limousine opened as the sound of Bryson's laughter filled the air around me.
"Joking," He stated as he got out.
I got out of the car, right after him and sighed. "Good. I'll call my dad after the reception because he will without a doubt not be here.... anyways, I will schedule a meeting with him for tomorrow afternoon."
Bryson placed a hand on my lower back and directed me towards the large white tent that was placed in the middle of the botanical gardens. "Oh, I was joking about 'how' time would pass, but I wasn't joking about the honeymoon."
His words made me stop in my tracks, "You can't be serious."
Bryson smiled, "Dead serious."
