An annoying ringing sound is getting on my nerves. I roll over in my bed and cover my head with a pillow, but the ringing continues. Sounds like a cell phone. My cell phone!
I remove the pillow off of my head and reach for my phone. I forget I have it sometimes. The only reason I do have it is for my mother. I grab it and no need to check the caller ID, I answer it. I was already in moody feeling because I couldnt sleep last night. My thoughts and dreams consist of Jayden.
"Hello mother." I answer knowingly.
"Hello my child. When will you come visit me. I haven't seen you in two years." she sounds angry.
I know why she wants me to come visit.
I silently groan. "I cant just leave whenever I please. How many times have I told you that?" I grumble.
At least she called before she started drinking. If she calls me late in the evening, I'm glad I'm busy because I know she would be drunk at that time.
"Why are you being snappy with me? I'm surprised your still a maid for being this rude." she remarks.
"Mother I have work to do, so I got to go." I try to get off the phone.
There was no way I was telling her I am no longer a maid.
"On your next day off, I want you to come visit." she demands and I roll my eyes at that.
"I'll try." I lie. "Goodbye mother." I hit the end button with out listening to her complaints.
I toss my phone on my bed and lay back down. Letting out my frustration, I shove the blanket off me and get out the bed. Talking to her this early, is the wrong way to start my day.
I need to get dressed and go eat some breakfast. I go to my dresser and pull out a pair of blue jeans. Then I go to my closet and pick out a simple black blouse. I'll my hair down today for once too. I brush it and let it fall down my back. I check my reflection in the mirror and nod for my own approval.
I cant let my mothers commands and rude comment ruin my day. I'm not a maid anymore. I have a job now that someone needs me. And so far, I'm great at it.
I smile at myself and leave my room.
Walking down the hall with my head up, I'm starting to feel better. She doesn't have faith in me and never has. Even the day I moved out to come here, she said things like I will get fired, I won't do a good job or maids are trash. She was just mad because I wouldn't be there to support her.
Walking proudly down the stairs, I meet Joey coming up the stairs. He looks up with confusion, then recognition appears on his face.
"Izzy?" he questions.
I smile. "Hey Joey."
"Your hair.....its....wow." he says amazed.
I run my hand down my hair. "Yea, I thought I would let it down for a change."
His eyes widen. "It looks good."
"Thanks Joey." I smile and keep walking down the stairs.
One friend has a positive feedback, but I feel nervous all of a sudden. Im not used to people seeing me like this. Where did my confidence I had go? Its just hair. Why am I freaking out for changing my hair style? I shake my head at my change of thought.
I continue to the kitchen and stroll in. The first person I lay my eyes on is Jayden. He's saying something to Harris, but stops as he sees me. His eyes widened and his mouth slightly hangs open. I see him stiffen.
