two months later...

The weather is bitter and cold, the wind pinching at the exposed skin on Seungkwan's face. Although he has on his big coat and a scarf wrapped around his neck, he is shaking.

Going back to school after a long winter break was not something Seungkwan looked forward to. He was too comfortable back at home with his mother, eating all the food he wanted, and not having to worry about any tests or assignments.

Just five more months and I'm out, he thought, as he walked through the school's entrance.

The school was already filled with the other students, all of them also shivering as they talked together before class. Seungkwan was not in the mood for that, he just wanted to get to his locker and then go to his first class, getting it done with so he could move on to the next one and the next one until school is over.

Seungkwan walked down the hallway towards his locker, which was just at the end of the hall. He pulled out his set of keys and pulled out the locker key (knowing that there was no way he could guess the combination before class began), twisting the key in the lock before the door popped open.

Inside, Seungkwan had only his three textbooks. His other notebooks and things were in his backpack, since he reviewed over the break so he wouldn't fall too far behind. On the side of his biology textbook was a dark red envelope.

This was no longer a strange item to him, Seungkwan had received a few letters the week before Winter Break. The letters always contained some small note about a moment he and Vernon shared together, but as of now, those memories meant nothing to him.

Seungkwan sighed, opening the newest red envelope and pulling out the yellow piece of notepaper in it.

Do you remember the day we met? Sometimes I laugh in the morning when I remember how badly I scared you when you saw my prosthetic hand. You spilled my coffee everywhere, and even afterwards, your fingers still trembled as you helped me clean up the mess. Afterwards, you went with me to library to help me with biology homework.

I got an A on the test the next day!

Even though sometimes seeing this hand brings grief, it brought you and I close.

-vernon.

"I'm not going to remember any of this," Seungkwan sighed, pushing the notepaper into the envelope before putting it back in his locker.

Seungkwan was painfully aware that before his accident, he and Vernon had been dating for a year. He did try his best to remember all their times together, and even went out with Vernon a few times, trying to trigger any memories. However, he couldn't remember any. Their relationship officially ended after the third date.

"If you cannot remember any of our time together," Vernon said, "then you don't have to be in a relationship with me. Just remember, you can come talk to me anytime you want!"

He tried to be joyful during this time but Seungkwan knew his heart ached, so he avoided talking to Vernon at all. He wanted Vernon to heal and find someone else.

Vernon did not have any plans of doing so.

Vernon still had faith that one day Seungkwan would remember their relationship, so he continued to hold on. He hoped that one day his letters would help Seungkwan out, but lately, Seungkwan just reads them with a blank expression, not able to feel the emotion flowing from Vernon's notes.

Vernon could not stop smiling when he wrote today's note that morning. He thought back to when he and Seungkwan met in the coffee shop where Seungkwan used to work.

Seungkwan, who at the time was a new employee, was greeted by Vernon one Saturday morning. Vernon asked for a strong coffee, something that would help him prepare for excessive studying that day.

"What are you studying for today?" Seungkwan asked, writing down Vernon's order.

"Biology," Vernon sighed, "my worst class as of now. I never seem to get it."

"I'm sure you'll do fine," Seungkwan gave him a small smile, "I'll call you right up when your order is ready, Vernon!"

After a few minutes, Seungkwan said Vernon's name in the shop, and Vernon walked up to the counter, where Seungkwan was holding his cup of hot coffee.

"It'll be five dollars," Seungkwan said.

Vernon pulled his hand out of his pocket holding the cash, and Seungkwan suddenly let out a loud scream, throwing Vernon's coffee to the side. Vernon at first thought that Seungkwan had managed to burn himself, but when he saw how Seungkwan's eyes trembled when he saw Vernon's hand, he shook his head chuckling.

"What, you've never seen a prosthetic hand before?" Vernon asked. "Did I scare you that badly?"

"N-No, you just caught me by surprise," Seungkwan lied, bending down to get Vernon's now empty cup. "I'll make you another cup in just a few minutes, right after I c-"

"This is your second spill in two days." Seungkwan's manager walked up behind him, his lips in an ugly scowl. "Can't you be more careful?"

"I promise, it won't happen again," Seungkwan swore.

Seungkwan's manager simply rolled his eyes and walked away, mumbling under his breath about how unreliable teens were jobs such as this. Seungkwan and Vernon made eye contact again and Vernon winked at him, making Seungkwan smile a little bit.

"I-I can help you with the biology stuff if you want, as a way of saying sorry," Seungkwan mumbled, "I'm really good at it!"

"That would be most helpful," Vernon smiled, "thanks."

After Seungkwan's shift, him and Vernon sat in the library where Seungkwan retaught Vernon everything. It became a weekly thing, which managed to blossom into a beautiful relationship.

However, the relationship was over now, there was no chemistry between the two boys anymore.

Vernon sighed, watching from the opposite side of the hallway as Seungkwan shoved the note back into the envelope and threw it back into the locker. He turned his back to Seungkwan before going to his first class.

Even if it hurts, even if I could lose another limb, Vernon thought, please remember me, Seungkwan.
