I grabbed a few tissues and wiped my face, looking at my mum for what may be the last time.

I gave her a kiss on her pale, cold cheek and whispered another 'I love you' and left the room with a smile, but tears were eminent.

I managed to say"Dad, let's go home." without breaking down. He nodded, looking just as messed up as I was and we left for home.

It took me five weeks to come out of my room and start eating again. I started to assist my father as well when I remembered my promise to mum and I intend to keep it! And so I did and so I am....

I came back to reality to see mum and dad looking at me with this 'are you okay look'.

I was surprised to see Veronica actually caring. Well I guess that pigs will fly tonight! I muttered an" I'm okay. Please continue" as I wipe my tear stained cheeks.

He continues, " But after a while when you were young I discovered that I had some unfinished business to attend to and it would endanger you both.

She refused to have you in danger and wanted to have a divorce, but she later realized that you still needed a father in your life so she stayed. I loved your mother, but sometimes my temper got the best of me.

That night, blinded by rage I grabbed the vase and aimed for her but out of nowhere you appeared and got in the way.

You got hit because of me and I never forgave myself for it! That night waiting in the hospital with your mother, we held each other tight as we cried.

We were scared for you, for us and for our future. That's when your mother decided that she will stay with me not because you needed me, but because she still loved me and wanted to fight alongside me in the rocky road ahead.

She believed that we could overcome it together and we did!

On the day it was over we celebrated and we decided to take you to that new amusement park you wanted to go to. However, I had to go to an emergency so I couldn't make it. Later that afternoon I discovered that my business was far from done, and that a special car was speeding your way planning on killing both of you. I sped off from work and by the time I got there-" He paused as a few tears fell down his face and swiftly covered his face with his arm. I got up to comfort him but noticed that Veronica left his office and was standing outside the door doing the same motion as he was.

Shrugging it off I walked up to him , rubbed his back in a circular motion and whispered some sweet and funny times with mum in his ear making him chuckle. Suddenly his face got serious and his posture stiff. Looking at my face he said " How is it that you always do that?" I cocked my head to the side confusingly. " You were always there when I needed you, weren't you? You're the light that shines when I needed it the most-"

He stood up and gazed down at me with some kind of realization in his eyes. "-and where was I when you needed me? I'm so sorry, but I'll try to be a better father. I'll become a father that is worthy enough to have a daughter like you - and a wife like her." His head looked up thoughtfully as if to see mum in the heavens and apologizing. Tears flowed down my cheeks as all the years of holding down my pain, rage and sadness plundered my soul. A rough hand wiped my never ending tears away and engulfed me into a hug.

With my head on his chest I say the words" I forgive you." and embrace him with my small arms. He started shaking and sniffling as he held me tighter. It was as if he wanted to engrave me into his heart as we stood their embracing each other. After a few minutes we came out of our warm embrace. We smiled at each other and I made my decision. " Daddy, let's go to Hawaii! We could use the break." Nodding his head he said an "Okay."
