After sneaking out of her house, Holly knew she was going to be dead. Then grounded forever. That was the second most horrible thing she's done, but she got away with number one because she was four.
Holly was actually a pretty bad kid. She always disobeyed her mom and did really, really bad stuff. But she changed when she was eight, and that was the best decision in her life. And now she was ruining that. Unless they could get home before 5:00 like Jesse promised.
"We've been walking forever!!" Jennifire whined.
"Yeah, but look," Jesse pointed ahead. "We're almost there!"
The forest was super close now. Jennifire got excited and ran ahead.
"Jenni, don't go to far!" Holly called after her, but Jennifire obviously didn't hear her. She ran in and disappeared.
"Great," Holly grumbled, speeding her pace. "Now we lost my sister."
Jesse had to practically run to keep up with Holly. They entered the forest and stood for a second, guessing which way Jennifire could have run.
"There," Jesse said pointing. "Trail of bright pink flowers."
Made sense. Jennifire loved that finally she had earned her powers, so she was using them constantly.
The girls followed the trail to a clearing that was easily 10 miles long. To the far left was a mountain.
"Where is she?" Holly said. The trail had ended and Jennifire was nowhere to be seen. And unlike Holly, looking around frantically, Jesse was looking right at the mountain.
"Holly," Jesse hissed.
"Did you find her?" Holly asked, turning to look at Jesse.
"I think I did." Jesse pointed to the mountain. There was a small trail of grass leading around the mountain. That was unusual, because everything else was covered in snow.
"Jennifire!" Holly called out, running toward the mountain. Jesse followed Holly around the mountain to find Jennifire eating pink frosting and looking into the entrance of a cave.
"Jennifire don't you ever do that again!" Holly scolded the ten year old, hugging her.
"Eww," Jennifire laughed. "Your ugliness is rubbing off on me! Anyways, I found the noise. Came from in here." Jennifire turned around and looked into the cave.
"Well, we'd have to go in to find out." Jesse said, casually heading inside the cave.
"What? No," Holly pulled Jesse back. "We can't go in there. That would be crazy, especially if the noise did come from in there."
"But we can't go back until we find out what it was!" Jesse shouted, storming in the cave.
She had been like that ever since her dad was murdered five feet away from where she was standing. She was an orphan now, and felt like it was her duty to 'destroy all evil so nobody has to go through what I have.'
Holly sighed. "OK Jess, but we find that think then we're heading home." Holly and Jennifire headed after Jesse.
The cave was normal looking, but above there heads were giant icicles. Some were on the ground, cracked.
"This place is creepy," Jennifire said after a long, silent walk.
After another silent five minutes, the girls came to a giant wall that looked like ice. Well, not exactly a wall...
"Those look like scales," Jennifire whispered. "And it's moving."
The girls stood there, frozen with fear and curiosity. After several more minutes of silence, the 'wall' grumbled. The girls screamed and ran away, while the creature turned over. The icicles were falling from the ceiling now, making it seem impossible to escape. The entrance was only yards away. The girls ran through and fell down.
Jennifire laughed nervously and rolled over hitting Jesse in the shoulder. "That was fun, wasn't i-" Jennifire stared at her hand. It was covered in blood. She nervously looked down at Jesse. Her shoulder was covered in blood, and it was running down her arm.
"Jesse?" Jennifire said. Holly rushed over.
"Oh no! No no no no no!" She cried out, tears blurring her vision. "We have to help." Holly wiped her bloody hands on her white skirt. Then she tore that part if her skirt off.
"That's your favorite skirt," Jennifire pointed out.
"Shush." Holly said, wrapping the fabric tightly around Jesse's wounded shoulder. Jesse cried out in pain.
"Okay, watch her." Holly instructed Jennifire.
"Where are you going?" Jennifire asked.
"I'm going to see what that was."
"Your going to die."
Holly ignored her sister and hesitantly went into the cave. She walked for a while, dodging fallen icicles. She was breathing heavily once she reached the odd creature. It had turned over, and Holly could see it's head. It had a long neck, a giant head and a long snout.
"It's a...dragon?" Holly guessed.
She walked back and forth looking for a way to get past the dragon. The only past was to crawl over its tail.
Holly took a deep breath. "OK, I can do this. I can do this. No big problem, just climbing over a random ice dragons tail." Holly held still for a moment once she was on top of the tail. Then she jumped down.
She stood up and brushed herself off. She looked around and gasped. She was standing in a room like area that was mostly empty except two ice figures that looked exactly like Jesse's grandparents. Holly walked up to them. They looked so real.
"But they can't actually be real." Holly said to herself.
She walked around them a few times before noticing something at there feet. She picked it up and studied it before realizing what it was.
"It's a.... a... Controller? For the..?" Holly pushed a button and the dragon grumbled. "The dragon."
She ran out to her sister and Jesse. Jesse was luckily up and looked fine. Holly told them her discovery.
"What?" Jesse growled, rising to her feet.
"Its a machine. And Jesse, I also saw.."
"What?"
"Well," Holly laughed nervously. "I saw your grandparents."
Jesse gaped at Holly before asking what she meant.
"Well, not exactly them. Maybe them. But they were ice an-" Holly was cut off by a low growl coming from inside the cave. The girls looked in and saw Jesse's grandparents stumbling out.
"But.. They..." Holly stuttered.
"What are they saying?" Jennifire asked.
"Run!" They shouted as they emerged from the cave. Before the girls could even process that, the ground started to shake and the dragon broke through the mountain.
