Holly tried to run, but that was hard while carrying an unconscious body. Okay, that sounded bad. Holly shook her head. She felt Jesse get heavier, and looked up. Jennifire wasn't carrying Jesse anymore, she was looking toward the the dragon with a scared expression. Holly nervously turned around to see what her sister was so worried about.
The dragons cold eyes were staring at them."Jennifire," Holly whispered. "Just pick Jesse up and let's go."
"Yeah," Jennifire said. "Your right." Jennifire hastily picked Jesse's feet up and ushered Holly forward. The girls were past the mountain and ten feet away from the first trees of the forest. But the dragon suddenly got up and growled. It's icy eyes were looking directly at Holly. She gulped, hoping this would end well. The dragon took one step towards the girls and leaned down with its long neck. It mouth was opening, and it lifted Holly of the ground by biting her jacket. Holly was still holding onto Jesse's hands and didn't want to let go, and Jennifire was still holding onto Jesse's feet. The dragon swiftly turned it's head and Holly's jacket ripped, and the girls fell.
They landed in a pile of snow near the mountain. Jennifire was the first to climb out, only to jump back in. The dragon was spewing icicles everywhere.
"Holly," Jennifire whimpered. Holly's head emerged from the snow pile, pulling Jesse up with her.
"Wake up, wake up," Holly whispered to Jesse, shaking her. The ice dragon got irritated by missing the girls and took a step forward trying to get a better shot.Jesse's eyes opened. But this time they weren't there usual brown. They were a deep shade of green. Holly fell back and scooted away. She looked at Jesse again but she didn't even look like Jesse. Well, she did and didn't. Her hair had dark green stripes in them and she was glowing purple. She looked angrily down at Holly and Jennifire, then turned to look at the dragon. She screamed and ran toward it. Her voice was deeper and she was running faster than, well, anything Holly's ever seen.
Jesse didn't know what was happening. She could see and feel why she was doing, but she couldn't control it. She made contact with one of the dragons leg. It stumbled back and fell to the ground. It growled and rose up to stand on its two hind legs and started spewing a storm up of icicles. It then aimed directly at Jesse. She wanted to run, but she couldn't. She stood there and started... laughing?
Holly thought Jesse was crazy, just standing there laughing. The ice dragon was staring directly at Jesse, preparing to impale her with ice. Without thinking, Holly ran. She wrapped her arms around Jesse's waist and jumped, barely missing the ice. Jesse was unconscious again, but luckily not hurt or dead. Holly turned again to look at the dragon. It looked like it was going to shoot ice her way, but it started shaking furiously.
"Jennifire!" Holly called, to her sister, pulling Jesse toward the forest. Jennifire ran toward her and ducked behind tree. A few seconds later Holly joined her with Jesse. Just in time, too.
The dragon was shaking so furiously that bits and prices of its metal body started flying off of it in random directions. The girls hid behind the tree for a good food minutes before the dragon had disassembled completely. Holly was the first to emerge from the forest to look at the mess of metal and ice.
Mostly because Jennifire offered to watch Jesse and refused to move.
The only part of the dragon that was still intact was it's head, about the size of ten year old Jennifire. Holly hesitantly approached it, making sure not to step on anything but the snow below her. She stood over the head and noticed one simple word carved right above the left eye : Cyrus. Holly stared at the name for a while. It seemed familiar, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Jennifire looked over her shoulder at her sister, then back at Jesse. She wasn't exactly scared to go and look at the remaining pieces of the dragon. She was just more c curious about what had happened to Jesse. She was losing that people for around her, and her hair was losing the green as well. Jennifire wanted to peel her eyelids open to see if they were broken again, but Holly ran over before she could.
"Jenni, I think I know who did this," Holly said holding a book.
"Where did you, never mind. Who did this?" Jennifire asked, looking up at her sister.
"It this old history book," Holly pointed at the book she was holding. "It mentions a Cyrus who was banished into the 'dark side' after losing in a war against us."
"We were in a war?"
"No, I mean our side. The 'light side'." Holly said.Jennifire nodded. She heard her sister reading to herself earlier before Jesse got to there house.
"We should head home," Jesse's weak voice said. She slightly sat up keeping her eyes closed. When she opened them they looked normal. It took a few minutes, but she stood up.
They all started walking in silence. Jennifire tried to eat some frosting, but decided against it.
"When are we going to get there?" Jennifire complained. They had been walking for what felt like forever in what they thought was the right way...
"Um, soon. Maybe," Holly stopped. "I think we might have taken a few wrong turns. But that's OK. I'm sure we'll find some sort of civilization soon."
"Thanks for the tip, miss sunshine." Jesse said.
"That's actually my cousin, Summer." Jennifer said.
"OK. We should just keep going. I mean, a lot of people like camping out here. Especially this far into nature. We'll find somebody soon." Holly said. Jesse and Jennifire trudged after Holly. After about a mile, Jesse stopped. "Do you hear that?" Holly and Jennifire both gave Jesse a confused look. Jesse walked a bit further away from them. "It sounds like... Moving water. Maybe a river! You guys live by a river!" The girls ran toward the noise, and stopped on the beach of a lake.
"I'm hungry." Jennifire said.
Silence.
"I said I'm hungry!" Jennifire said again.
"OK, OK. I guess we can find our way home tomorrow. Let's just stay here the night..?" It was more a question than order, but both Jesse and Jennifire nodded to Holly. It was going to be a long night.
