By the end of the week nothing changes, I still look at her every chance I get. She seems to mesmerise me. She is just one big question mark.
"What's up?" Alex asks on Friday night at the local pub.
"Nothing." I say and look down at my pint.
"I call bullshit, is it Zoe?" He asks.
"No, we're over." I say.
"Damn, she was hot. Anyway, is that what is bothering you?" He asks.
"No, not her." I say and finish my drink.
"Who then?" he asks. I smile and look out the window.
"Amy." I say quietly.
"Woah, woah, woah wait. You actually like someone?" Alex asks.
"No, she just intrigues me." I say, but Alex seems to be ecstatic.
"Well that's an improvement. Damn Harry I thought you would never like anyone." He exclaims. I roll my eyes and smile. The rest of the evening is spent talking about her, the little I know about her and why I find her so fascinating.
After I drop Alex off home I start to go to my place when I see Amy, she is climbing out of a window with what looks like bedsheets. I stop my car and look properly. She sees me then quickly walks over.
"Harry right?" She asks.
"Yeah. What are you doing?" I ask.
"Being bad. Will you help me?" She asks and bites her lip as she looks behind her.
"How?" I ask.
"I need to get to my gig but my ride bailed." She says.
"You have a gig?" I ask.
"Yes, I'll explain, are you in or not?" She asks.
"Get in." I smile. She gets in and straps herself in. She starts giving me directions as I drive.
Every now and again I look at her. Her hair is down and to the right. She is wearing a very short black dress which flairs out at her hips. She is wearing black leather style trousers and black heels. Her makeup is also grungy. But it suits her.
"So, what do I get in return for this?" I ask.
"Free entrance and free drinks?" She offers.
"If I'm driving I am not drinking." I say.
"Well, what do you want?" She asks. I shrug.
"I don't know." I say. She laughs a little and runs her hand through her hair I smile and we soon pull into a bar. When we get out Amy grabs my hand and pulls me into the back entrance of the bar.
"Through there is the main bar. Meet you outside when it's over?" She asks.
"Ok." I say. She smiles and runs to some people by the stage, they all do a shot and I walk out to the bar. I order a drink and as I start sipping Amy comes out and grabs the bass on stage. She is on the right. In the middle is another girl, about the same age. She has long blonde hair but it is dyed green at the ends. She is very pale and is also wearing all black. Behind her is a guy on drums. He is quite tanned and wearing a very open muscle tee. He has a black bandanna on and eyeliner.
The last person is the girl on the far left. She is holding a guitar. Her hair is pitch black but has a blue glow to it. She has strong eyeliner on and a lip ring. Her dress is short and black and she has a red and black flannel top tied around her waist.
"Hello, we are redshift, I am Dani, singer. On guitar is Gabby. On drums is Adam and on bass is Amy. This is our music." Dani says and after a count they start playing.
Their style is indie rock. Sometimes more upbeat but as the night progresses it gets mellower and the people dancing sway instead of jump.
"You've been a great crowd, this is our last one and it's called K." Dani says. The crowd sighs and the stage slowly darkens. A soft spot light turns on to the main singer but instead of Dani Amy stands there. She starts softly playing her bass with the others quietly in the background. She closes her eyes and starts singing.
Her voice is sweet but powerful, raw. When she opens her eyes to focus on her bass her eyes are full of emotion. It makes me want to be closer to her even more. It honestly starts to worry me.
"Thank you and goodnight." Amy says when the song is over and the crowd roars. I clap and whistle. She, well the whole band was amazing.
"Damn." I say as I walk out to where Amy said she would meet me. After about five minutes of waiting Amy comes out and smiles a little at me.
"Hey." I say and smile.
"Hey." She says, the vibe is different. She seems to have an air of innocence and slight vulnerability. She holds her hands together in front of her and looks down.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"Don't tell anyone, please?" She asks. I give her a small smile.
"Sure." I say. She smiles widely. "Shall we?" I ask and gesture to my car.
"Sure." She says. I open the door for her and close it after her. I get in and start driving to her instructions.
"So, why is this a secret? You are amazing, I would be showing off." I say.
"That's the biggest crowd I will ever preform in front of. I have awful stage fright. Plus I don't want the people at school knowing because I will stand out." She says with a shrug.
"You already stand out." I say.
"Are you serious? I'm invisible to most people there." She exclaims.
"You stand out to me." I say without thinking. My face heats but luckily the silence does not last long.
"Wow, I thought you were too popular." She says.
"I'm not popular, I don't know why people say that." I say and shake my head.
"Just walking down the hall half of the people said hi to you, if that doesn't speak volumes I don't know what will." She says as we pull up to her place.
"I still don't buy it." I say. She laughs and opens the door.
"Thanks for tonight Harry, you're a surprisingly good guy." She says. I smile.
"Thanks." I say.
"See you in school." She says as she gets out.
"See you." I say. She smiles and climbs back up to her window. I drive home so happy I am almost lightheaded. And that seems to happen every time I see her.
