The following Monday Amy slips me her number in class. I instantly add her to my contacts and text her saying it's me. She taps away until class starts. That Friday night I take her to a gig again but we hang out after as it was earlier. We go to the local park which is deserted at this time of night and sit on the swings.
"So, why bass?" I ask we sway.
"My fingers couldn't figure out guitar and it sounds awesome." Amy says. I smile. "Do you play anything?" She asks.
"I messed around with guitar a bit a few years ago because I was trying to impress someone but other than that no." I say.
"Who were you trying to impress?" Amy asks, resting her head on the chain of the swing.
"Some girl from a summer retreat thing." I say, she hums an answer. "Why did you move here?" I ask.
"My mum wanted to get away from my dad." Amy says and rolls her eyes as she plays with the sand beneath our feet. "They are officially divorced a month today actually." She says.
"I'm sorry." I say.
"No, it's ok, I don't like my dad anymore." She says and pulls all of her hair to her right side.
"Why?" I ask. She looks at me and smiles.
"Why do you care?" She asks.
"You interest me, you aren't like anyone else I know." I say as I swing a leg to the other side so I am facing her.
"Ok, well when the topic of custody came up my mum wanted custody of me, my dad wanted the dog." She says and looks away awkwardly.
"Amy..." I trail off sadly.
"No Harry, it's ok, he was never around so I'm not missing much." She says and starts chuckling. "I don't know why I am telling you this." She says and looks up.
"I don't know either, but I'm glad you did. I want to figure you out." I say as I observe her.
"That's impossible." She says as she looks at me. I shrug.
"Nothing is impossible Amy." I say as I lean in to look at her properly through the darkness. She slowly leans in too. My eyes flicker to her lips and before I know it I kiss her.
As I realise what I am doing I decide to pull away until I feel her kissing back. She puts her hand in my hair and I do the same. Her hair is so thick but so soft. Her lips are sweet and the perfect softness. I run one hand over her cheek and she smiles.
"You're weird, I want to figure you out." She says.
"Impossible." I say dramatically.
"Nothing is impossible Harry." She says and connects our lips again. I smile now and we stay like that for a while. Once over Amy rests her head on my shoulder until I feel her breathing deepen slightly, telling me she is tired.
"Let's get you home." I say and she sits up she smiles and I lead her back to my car.
"I don't want to go back to my place." She says.
"Why?" I ask.
"My mum is out of town, I don't feel safe." She says.
"This isn't London, and you are so tired I'm sure you'll sleep." I say.
"You can take the girl out of London but you can't take London out of the girl." She says.
"Do you want me to stay with you?" I ask.
"Won't your parents mind?" She asks.
"My parents are in China right now." I say.
"Why?" She asks, shocked.
"They are on a world tour kind of thing, I haven't seen them for almost a year." I say and shrug.
"Harry?" Amy asks.
"Yeah?" I ask and look at her.
"Can I stay at yours then? I don't like my place." She says with the oddly familiar child-like vulnerability.
"Sure." I say and I see her settle.
I get us to my place and I show her to my room. I let her borrow a top of mine to sleep in and I get a drink. I go back to my room and see Amy climb into my bed.
"I'll be downstairs if you need me." I say and smile.
"You can sleep in here with me, no funny business though." She says. I chuckle.
"Ok." I say and get changed in my bathroom, when I get in bed Amy is already sleeping. I smile and play with her hair gently.
"You like my hair don't you?" Amy asks tiredly as she turns around to face me.
"Yeah..." I trail off.
"Only family and boyfriends touch my hair. Last I checked you didn't ask to be my boyfriend." She says.
"Who said I wanted to be?" I ask. She opens her eyes and glares at me. I chuckle and run my hand through the side of her hair. "Can I be you boyfriend, if you'll have me?" I ask.
"I'll think about it." She says and closes her eyes. I frown slightly and roll my eyes. I lay down properly and slowly drift off.
