I followed Scott out of the house. He was trying to ditch me and leave me here. "I'm going with you!" I yell after him. Struggling to keep up with his longer steps. "No! You're staying!" Scott gets into his car and I try to pull on the handle to be let in but he locks it.
"Scott!" I yell but he just takes off and drives away. I scream out in frustration. Fine! I'll start my own search party. I turn and start running into the woods. I'm not a very fast runner but I'm not going to give up on Kit.
When Scott told me he was going to organize a search party I wanted to go with him but he refused. He said kit was unstable and that Alexander would be out there. He said it wouldn't be safe for me to be in the woods. Well guess what. I'm going anyway.
I stop running when I'm not able to catch my breath as quickly. I walk fast and wait until I can catch my breath before running again. The sun starts to set and a light rain sprinkles onto the trees. The woods are foggy and I can feel my hair getting damp from the rain.
I walk through the woods stepping over logs and pushing branches back so they aren't in the way. At one point a branch snaps back and hits my cheek. It stings and I whimper slightly but I don't stop moving.
I try to keep my eyes sharp while I walk because of the fog. I don't yell his name because I don't want Scott to find me and I definitely don't want Alexander to find me. I walk for what seems like 30 minutes and by now my hair is completely wet.
I'm about to stop and rest when I see a man leaned up against a tree up ahead. "Kit?" I call out. He turns quickly and look at me with wide eyes. "Annie, you can't be here! You shouldn't- you're bleeding."
Kit walks toward me in large steps and grabs my head. He tilts it to the side and looks at my cheek. Kit glances down for a moment and pulls his hands away from my face. His whole demeanor changes. "He marked you." Kit growls out. I try to explain myself, "Kit you never come around, and I care about him and he cares about me and-" he cuts me of by putting his hand up and shaking his head. "Kit. Whatever's going on it's ok but lets just please go home ok?" I plead with him to come with me. He nods slowly and I grab his hand and starts pulling him behind me.
All the sudden Kit yanks back on my hand an I fall. I look back to see he was grabbed by someone. The person holding him injects something into his neck. "No!" I scream and jump up. Please let someone have heard me. Someone else emerges from the woods and smacks me across the face. I hit the ground and fade out of consciousness.I wake up with a dull headache and pain on my jaw. My eyes open lazily to see Kit across the room from me look at me with concerned eyes. "Kit what's going on?" I try to move toward him but I can't. I realize I'm chained to the wall. I look closer and see that he's chained to the other wall.
I look around the room to see it's more of a concrete bunker than a room. I sigh heavily and lean my weight into my knees. "Alexander." I say defeatedly. Kit just nods. "I was worried. From the bruise on your jaw I'd say they hit you, and I was afraid they hit you too hard." He says.
I try to scoot forward a little bit but I can't. "How long have you been awake?" I ask. "About an hour I think." He looks around the room like he's looking for something. "I haven't found a way out yet. I can't mind link anyone. I think it's the walls."
I just hang my head and sigh. "We'll figure something out." I say. Kits about to open his mouth when all the sudden the wall next to us moves. It reveals Alexander with a smirk on his face. "So I've changed my game. I though it was only fair I told you the rules."
I roll my eyes earning a glare from Alexander. "It would be wise to listen girl. I would have been completely satisfied killing Kit, but I've changed my mind. I want Scott's pack. And you, Kit, will give me the information I need to do so."
Kit scoffs, "And why would I do that?" Alexander grins a disgusting grin and walks closer to me. He suddenly turns his pointed finger into a claw and stabs it into my stomach. I scream and double over. I hear the rattle of chains as Kit pulls against them.
"Oh I'm sorry." Alexander says in a fake tone, "I forgot you were human. I guess you won't heal very quickly." He takes another claw and slaps it across my face. I feel blood trickle across my forehead. Then he stabs a claw into my arm. I scream again.
"I'll leave you two to think about it." Alexander says and he starts to walk away. Kit pulls against the chains and yells, not even words just yelling. I lay back against the wall. I glance down to see the damage and see a red spot on my shirt that slowly grows bigger.
"I'm gonna bleed to death." I say. "God I'm sorry, Annie" he says. "I'm sorry for avoiding you for weeks and for being stupid and now for this." I feel tears begin to run down my face as the pain in my stomach gets worse. I didn't feel it at first from the shock I suppose but I feel it now.
"Kit, it hurts." I squeak out as more tears flow from my face. "I know, Annie, I know. Just think about something else. Think about swimming in the lake. You remember when we went swimming that day?" I nod and try to focus on that.
"We saw a big catfish and you screamed." I say. "He I wasn't expecting it to be there." Kit defends himself. I laugh but my stomach howls in pain. I groan and lean my head back. "Annie." I look at Kit and bite on my lip trying not to think about bleeding out.
"I'm gonna give Alexander what he wants." Kit says this and I shake my head frantically. "He'll just kill us after he gets what he wants. Besides, we can't just throw the pack out to suffer. Scott and the rest of the pack will find us."
Kits face turns sour. "Oh your precious mate will save you?" I give him a glare but he keeps on talking. "What makes you think Scott cares so much? I'll bet you didn't know this, but when Ariel died Scott swore to replace her. And here's the thing, Annie, you and Ariel, you have the same eyes."
