The Girl Who Runs With Wolves

Chapter 6

I wake up the next morning completely confused. Last nights events slowly come back to me. I throw my feet off the side of the bed and walk to the door. I open the door to be greeted by Scott, standing there with a smile. "What's got you in such a good mood?" I ask. "Today I'm going to train you."
"And what does Kit say about that?" I raise an eyebrow. I know that Kit would be 100% against this. "It doesn't matter what Kit thinks. Everyone else agrees with me, as they should because I'm right." I roll my eyes at Scott. I guess it's an alpha thing to assume you're always right.
"Come on Scott, you know Kit is just gonna get mad and storm off again." I say. Scott steps into the room. "Kit's never around anyway. He's the lone wolf. He may not even show up today."
Scott crosses his arms as if he's annoyed to be talking about Kit. "Does Kit normally not show up?" I questions.
"Annie. Kit normally doesn't come around at all. He starting coming around more after you showed up. Look today is about training you anyway, I want you to be able to defend yourself the next time you get into a sticky situation."
My mouth falls open. "Next time!"
I cry. Scott's face remains blank when he gives his explanation. "I've been trying everything to keep you safe and- well I- it's just easier if you can defend yourself." With that he stomps off expecting me to follow, and I do.

Several hours later I'm sweating like crazy, but I've learned several defense maneuvers in hopes of protecting myself. Scott did most of my teaching but some other pack members helped me.
I was using a towel to wipe my face when Scott approaches me. "Annie, I've made the decision to move you onto the pack territory. There's a small vacant house on the ground near mine. I know you'll disagree with the choice so while we were training I had your belongings moved into the house."
      I just stare at him for a moment. Waiting for him to crack a smile or any sign that he is joking. When he shows no sign of messing with me I lose my cool. "What the hell, Scott! Why would you do that without asking me?" I stand up and cross my arms, ready to hear Scott's excuse.
      Scott's blank expression turns into an angry one. "I've tried everything else to keep you safe and this is the only option we have left." I scoff and reply, "We? You made this decision on your own Scott! What does it matter to you if I'm safe anyway?" I turn my back to walk away.
Scott grabs me by the arm, pretty hard and it kind of hurts but I don't let him know that. He starts yelling now, "It just matters, okay? It's done and you'll just have to deal with it! I'm sending someone to escort you to your new home." He walks away without giving me time to retaliate.
"Yeah well I already had a home!" I yell after him but he just ignores me. I notice everyone staring at me. We must have caused a scene. I just huff and gather my things quickly so I can leave. I storm outside only to see Kit leaning against his car with his arms crossed.
"Did you know?" I ask. Kit sighs heavily. "I think it's time you knew the truth." I feel my heartbeat pick up. I take a deep breath, "the truth about what, Kit?" He looks at the ground before looking back at me. "Everything."

We rode in silence in Kit's car until we pulled up to a small house. I guess this is mine now. Kit parks the car but neither of us moves. I can feel him looking at me but I don't look back at him. "I want to tell you everything before you go in the house." He says. He pauses for a moment, I guess for me to respond but I don't.
"Alexander was- ugh I don't know where to start. Three years ago Scott declared me as the lone wolf. I was angry beyond belief. We had been close friends forever and I was going to be his beta, but then he made me the lone wolf. Anyway after it happened Scott and I got into a huge fight. I ran off but he tracked me down to the edge of Alexander's territory. I entered his territory and soon Alexander befriended me. I was hiding out with him for a while until Scott came to visit. We fought and Marie, Alexanders mate, well she got too close."
      Kit stares at the ground like he's thinking too hard. "Kit, what happened?" After a deep sigh he continues, "We were near the cliffs and I didn't mean to bump into her I swear. She died and it was my fault."
      Kit lowers his head into his hands and I rest a hand on his back. The only comfort I can give him. "Kit, what happened to Marie, that was an accident. You didn't mean for anything to happen to her."
      Kit looks up at me, his eyes puffy and shining with unshed tears. "I'm not done yet, Annie. See the thing is now because of me everyone else is in danger. Alexander threatens anyone I get close to. Scott told me what they talked about. Do you know what he wants to do to you? Did Scott tell you?"
      I withdraw my hand from Kit's back, feeling slightly uneasy. "Kit what are you talking about?" He reaches out and grabs my hands. "He wants to mark you! Do you remember what I told you about marking?" I odd my head quickly. "So he's going to bite me?" I asks with eyebrows furrowed.
      "Annie", He looks at me in a way I can't explain, "He wants to claim you as his new mate." I pull back from Kit. I can feel myself on the verge of a panic attack. "What- why would- but- why me?" I push my hair back from my face to try and focus.
      Kit leans closer to me and says, "I don't know Annie. That's what I'm trying to figure out. But I have a feeling it's my fault also." I exhale slowly. "Why would it be your fault, Kit?" I ask.   He smiles shyly, "I might have caused a scene the other day. I was telling Scott to stay away from you. Maybe word got to Alexander and he took it the wrong way." I sigh deeply. So many questions run through my mind. Why would Kit want Scott to stay away from me? And why does Alexander want me as his mate? Also, why did I have to move to this town?
