Everything was peaceful until she came. Sandra and Jennifer were eating and talking endlessly, together and Mrs. Johnson was eating quietly.
"Sandra I see you have a friend here!", grandma said walking into the dining room.
"Grandma, this is Jennifer. Jennifer, grandma", Sandra introduced.
"Where are you from young lady?"
"umm, I'm actually from Britain but, yeah, living with mom in the next block. Dad works overseas."
"Britain, eh?", grandma said with a lost look on her face which vanished after a few seconds.
Strangely, only Sandra noticed that lost look. It was as if grandma had remembered something or missed something.
Sandra was thinking when grandma scolded, "Sandra look at yourself! Those torn clothes, uncombed hair!"
"Grandma, that's the way girls dress nowadays!"
"No Sandra, no! Look at you! Not a little bit of grace, not a little bit of ladylike gentleness in you!"
"Why should I be ladylike?!"
"Because it will help you in the future!", grandma coughed and talked altogether, "Because you don't have womanly manners and you are a very, very unlikely girl!"
Sandra didn't say anything, but her expression was enough. She roughly got up and walked off, followed by Jennifer, who was consoling her.
"Maybe you are actually boyish", Jennifer thoughtfully said, staring at Sandra.
"Thanks for the compliment. It was, in fact, very consoling!"
"No! don't take it in the wrong way! Come on!"
"Well, you know what? I'm just going to forget whatever's happened today. Today has been a horror story but I am going to start afresh!", said Sandra triumphantly and sighed peacefully. But only she knew, that today's events had actually disturbed her and the unforgettable dream was tugging at the back of her mind.
"That's my girl!", said Jennifer, with her brightest smile on and expected Sandra to smile, but Sandra was lost in thought.
"Hello? Knock knock! Sandra here?"
"Oh! Oh yeah, yeah... What were you saying?", Sandra asked with an innocent look.
"never mind."
There was an awkward silence for some time which was finally broken by Sandra.
"Am I actually that boyish?"
"Well I feel so. The way you speak, the way you act and the way you dress is so awesome and it's a little boyish, yeah..."
"Hm... But I am so bad or weird or something?"
"No! You're totally cool! I am a BIG fan!"
"oh! Come on! That's too much of a compliment!!", Sandra said, snorting and rolling her eyes, doing both together to make herself look very funny.
"HA HA HA !!!", Jennifer rolled on the bed and laughed.
"What?"
"Nothing......HA HA!", Jennifer laughed with tears in her eyes.
