Peter's jaw was a horrible purple- blue colour, even Ali had to admit to it.

It was nice to see Peter's pretty face get bruised up for once. She wondered why she got this sadistic pleasure from Peter's injury. Maybe something was wrong with her genes. Maybe it was that guy who left her mom. Curse him, god. He had messed everything up.

That was another thing. Getting Emma away from him was another. Ali had seen Emma go all kung fu on Kent Jordan, the biggest asshole Lakeforest could have, and Ali had to admit, it was pretty good to see Em do this. She personally thought that a bold Em was much better than a hidden in the shadows Em. The only time she'd seen Em really mad was when she'd kicked Christopher Ford's dick and got him groaning on the ground last year. This was great and everything, but you can't be a leech on anyone, even if that someone's your 'one true love', a concept that she was slowly growing cynical of again. What was one true love when the person you liked didn't like you back?

"He's fine, Emma, don't baby him too much," she hissed for what sounded like the millionth time. They were sitting on the grounds, with Ali starting on her homework, and Emma applying the gel pack to Peter's jaw, who was wincing like a baby and making a big show out of his silly bruise. Ali wanted to tell him to man up, but then she thought it would be too sexist, and that was what Lakeforest hoped to eradicate.

"Ali, no one asked you to stay," he said, in that annoyed voice he'd been using lately with her that made her almost smile in glee and rub her hands playfully. What was wrong with her?

"Aw, my cutie little bestie got hurt, I need to do something right?"

"Like what? Passing comments and generally being annoying?"

"Em, he isn't being fair. Tell him I mean well."

"Both of you, shut up." Em said, removing the gel pack to examine his bruise. Ali rolled her eyes, shut her book and came to her side.

"Scoot over, lemme see."

"But-"

"Listen, woman, I'm great at biology and I'm hoping to be some awesome doctor who's not a plastic surgeon. So let me try."

"Um, no, it's ok, Al, I'm fine. Say, shouldn't we be going home?" Peter said hastily, which made both Em and Ali laugh while he gave them sheepish grins. Clearly, he had liked Em fussing over him earlier, and obviously didn't want Ali to probe too. Seriously, boys were such creeps.

He got up, brushing off his clothes and holding out a hand for Em to get up.

"Ouch, no help for me huh?" Ali said cheekily.

"You don't need help, Al. Don't be a girl. I mean, figuratively. You are of course, just-"

"Peter, shut up. I got your point."

"Fine, whatever. So, lot of homework?"

"Oh my god, you won't believe how much." Em groaned. Em happened to like homework, so this was a surprise. Peter, however, nodded.

"I do, actually. Anyone have the theory of Archimedes one? It sucks."

"I do." Em said. Ali didn't say anything since she and Peter shared Physics together. Peter not liking something in Physics was weird.
