**Rae's POV**

I walk into the library and see Lena sitting at a table, her head resting on one of her hands. Her eyes are red. As I watch she wipes her nose on her sleeve. I walk over and sit opposite her. She glances at me and sighs.

"Go on, say I told you so," she says, her voice sounding choked.

"I didn't tell you so," I say.

"Why not?" she asks with a sob.

"Because you wouldn't have listened anyway," I point out, "you never listen to me."

"Rae, you know that's not true!" she exclaims, "you always come first! Always!"

I look away from her, anger and guilt rolling around in my stomach.

"I don't think that's true," I tell her calmly, "you've barely spoken to me the past couple of months."

She sighs heavily.

"I know, but I thought you didn't want me to," she says earnestly. I brush my fingers through my hair.

"Well, it doesn't matter," I say, "look, I just wanted to let you know that... Well... Oliver's not going to bother you anymore. And he's taken back what he said about you."

"What did you do?" Lena asks sounding apprehensive. I bite my lip, trying to hide a smile.

"Let's just say he's not going to be able to sit on s broom for awhile," I tell her, "I made 'Do you want my boot up your ass' a little too literal."

"Rae!" Lena gasps, sounding horrified. I smirk.

"I wanted to see if the rumours are true," I say.

"What rumours?" she asks.

"If he really is a tight arse."

Lena bursts out laughing, causing Madame Pince to shoot us an angry glare. I couldn't care less, it feels good to make Lena laugh again.

She won't be laughing when she finds out what you did.

My conscience chimes in at that moment and my stomach clenches. Fred and I decided to keep what happened a secret. Even though neither of us are dating George or Elena, it doesn't feel right. Fred told me that George does like me, which made me feel worse. Then George came in and told us what Elena had told him. It was beyond awkward, sitting next to Fred, listening to George telling us that Elena dumped Oliver because she's in love with Fred, when seconds before we'd been... Well... Making out.

"Have you eaten?" I ask, standing up, "I was... Umm... Busy during dinner, so I... Umm... Didn't."

"No, I didn't feel like it after..." Lena shrugs, tearing up again.

"Well, why don't we go down to the kitchen and you can tell me all about it," I suggest, "or not, whatever, it's up to you."

"No, I'd like to tell you," she says eagerly, standing up.

We sneak down to the kitchens. Curfew is getting closer, but Fred and George have shown me a few hidden passage ways, so we should get back okay. In the kitchen, the house elves fix us fish fingers, mashed potato and beans.

"Just like when we were little," Elena says. The food gets caught in my throat and I choke.

"Yeah," I say eventually, "it's great... So, are you going to tell me what happened or not?"

Lena sighs and puts down her fork.

"Oliver wanted to sleep with me," she says, "I told him I didn't want to, but he kept pressuring me. I didn't know what to do, so I ended it. Rae, I'm in love with Fred. I don't know why I dated Oliver, it was a mistake. I guess I was just tired of waiting for something that will never happen... Especially not now..."

"Fred'll come around," I say, ignoring the guilty twinges, "he's a big softy, really."

"Do you really think so?" Elena asks, her eyes shining, "I've missed this, Rae. I've missed hanging out with you. I wanted to, it was just that Oliver-"

"It wasn't Oliver's fault, Lena," I snap, angry all of a sudden, "you can't blame him for everything!"

"No, Rae, I'm not," she says quickly, "but it was he who said that I should give you space, I thought that's what you wanted."

"Maybe you should've asked me what I wanted," I mutter, pushing the beans around on my plate.

"What do you want?"

I sigh to myself.

"Snuffles."

"What?" Lena makes a face, "snuffles?"

"Snuffles," I repeat, "he's... Well, he's sort of my dog."

Lena is looking at me with an expression of disbelief. I roll my eyes.

"Nevermind," I say, getting up, "we'd better go, it's past curfew."

We manage to get up to the common room without being caught. Fred and George are sitting by the fire, talking intently. I feel my stomach tighten. Fred glances up and sees me. He shakes his head slightly and I breathe a sigh of relief. Our secret is safe.

For now.
