It's the day before Christmas Eve, and I keep finding myself in the middle of awkward silences between me and Morty. I don't know what to do at this point. Maybe he'll just hate me forever and I won't have to worry about this anymore.
Sighing, I ran my hands through my hair, finding it once again impossible to sleep through the night. Occasionally, I would hear sounds from Morty's room that were similar to muffled sobs and I had no idea what I was supposed to do. I tossed and turned on my bed, wondering what I'd gotten myself into here. I shrugged into my normal clothes, remembering to tuck my flask away after a long drink, and opened my door. I almost ran into Morty on my way downstairs, "S-Sorry." He just shrugged and pushed past me. My shoulders slumped and I made my way to Summer's room, knocking lightly.
She opened her door after a moment, "Yea?" She looked at me, did a once over, and sighed, "Come on." I walked into her room and sat against the wall, sinking down and pulling my flask out again. "Okay, before you start, I just wanna say we aren't the only ones who changed. You went from a cranky-ass grampa to a lovesick dog. Weird." Summer shook her head, sitting on the edge of her bed and facing me.
"I did eugh wh-what you said to, and-and he eugh he said 'he'll never be like you'. I-I didn't eugh kn-know what to do after, and I just walked out. I-I'm so eugh stupid." I pressed my legs to my chest, taking another long drink and screwing the cap back onto the flask.
Summer rolled her eyes and pulled out her phone once again. "Here."
I took it, unsure of what I'd find, and began scrolling through.
Morty
I just want this to end, Summer. I just want it to fucking stop.Summer
What are you talking about?Morty
I love him, and he fucking hates me.Summer
Morty, trust me, it'll work out. Give him a little time, okay?Morty
I've given him enough time, Summer. I've given him so much time. He doesn't want me, that much he made clear. Maybe I should see if Daemon wants to get back together.Summer
Morty, trust me when I say you have a chance ok? Don't get back with Daemon.Morty
If this doesn't fix itself, I'm just done. If nothing improves, I'm giving up.Summer
Trust me. Goodnight, Morty.Morty
Night, Summer.
I handed the phone back to Summer, "Fucking great. I-I eugh don't know what I'm supposed to do. I'm his fucking eugh gra-grandfather." I shook my head, grumbling.
"You gotta trust whatever you wanna do. You can't do anything else until you figure out how you feel. Forget what Morty feels. Figure out how you feel, ok?" Summer stood and smiled, "I'm gonna go eat. Just figure it out. Whatever it is, you'll be ok in the end. You both will."
I stood and followed her from the room, walking downstairs. "Morning, you two." Jerry smiled. Dammit, I'm gonna beat that smile from his stupid face one of these days. Knock up my daughter and think you're gonna get away with it? Think again, you fucking tard.
"Fuck off, eugh Jerry. Hey, Beth, thanks eugh fo-for cooking again, but I gotta go visit a friend." I wrapped my arm around Beth's shoulder and she looked up, fearful.
