Morty and I had sat up most of the night while I designed a ring for myself. It didn't take nearly as much time as Morty's did, due to it not requiring any special gadgets and doodads. Morty had helped, giving me ideas and designs.

This is definitely not my thing, but if it keeps him happy...

"Wow, Rick, that's really cool!" Morty held the ring up between his fingers, "Give me your hand." I held out my fingers, watching as Morty slipped the ring onto my hand. "I think eugh you already had-had this planned out, somehow." He giggled and pulled me into a hug before he yawned, "Maybe."

I threw my arm over his shoulders, "Come on, let's go to bed." Morty hummed and wrapped an arm around my waist, following as we went upstairs.

"Can we sleep in your room?" Morty looked up at me, wide tired eyes pleading. I pushed my door open, "Sure." He moved in and sat on the edge of my bed, kicking his jeans off. I shut the door and shrugged out of my lab coat and sweater, tossing them to the side and crawling onto the bed. I pulled Morty against me and ran my hand along his side, draping my arm over his middle. He sighed, "Goodnight, Rick."

I laid my head down, "'Night, Morty."

While his breathing evened out, I stared at our hands, looking at the rings on our fingers. The plan had changed from simple promise ring to...

Does this mean we're engaged? We never actually went over this whole thing in full.

Apparently Morty was just as unsure as I was because Beth had noticed the next morning, asking about the rings. Morty had stared up at me, definitely as confused as I was. I shrugged, "I guess... I-I guess we're engaged, huh?" Morty's jaw fell before he laughed, jumping excitedly.

He danced around the kitchen, still laughing. I watched, amused as I took a sip from my flask.

I never thought I'd be here right now. I guess this is where my life has come to. I'm engaged to my Morty. I'm infatuated with my Morty. I love this kid.

Morty danced over to me and grabbed my hands, "Do you really mean it, Rick?"

I smiled and nodded, "I do, kid. B-But you're doing all the shit that eugh goes with it. I'm not that into planning." Morty rolled his eyes, "I know. Weddings are just funerals with cake." His grin never faded, "I'm calling Summer. She'll do it, too, even if she has to take time away from school."

He leaned up and pecked my lips, walking off and pulling out his phone. "So you're serious about this?" Beth stood in front of the sink, "You're really going to go through with this?"

"I know a lot of-of Rick's that eugh made it this far. They're the happiest sons-of-bitches I've ever m-met. I think... I think eugh I'm tired of my old life. I want that. I want that with Morty. I-I'm eugh really going through with this." I smiled at the floor, happy in this moment.

"I'm glad to hear that. You better treat him well." I looked up, receiving a stern glance before a soft chuckle, "I never saw myself in this situation."

       "Me eugh neither."
