Chapter 10 – Turn it Off.

“We’re home mum.” I yelled walking through the door.

“What did you get for your birthday,” she asked meeting us at the door.

“Trip to the spa and a dog.” I said the last word too low for her to hear.

“What was that?”

“A dog.” I repeated louder.

“They got you a dog?” she said hysterically.

“Yes,” I said scratching my head.

“Where is it?” she demanded searching the room.

“I left it there.” I answered.

“Why?”

“Because Kat liked her and Fenton needed a playmate.” I responded going up stairs. I left my stuff on bed still packed and ran back downstairs. “Bye mum.” I said when I was at the door.

“Where are you going?” She asked from the kitchen.

“Out.” I replied opening the door.

“Wait I need to tell you and your sister something important before you go.” She said shutting the door.

“Can’t it wait?”

“No, it’s important and I need to tell you as soon as possible.”

I walked into the kitchen Jace was sitting at the table. I sat down beside her and looked expectedly at my mum.

“Well, girls I got a job promotion.”

“That’s great mum.” Jace said.

“I know. But they need me to go on a business trip to America for two weeks.” She murmured.

“That’s fine, we will be okay.” Jace assured her.

“That’s the thing I can’t leave two teenaged girls here by themselves for that long of a time.” Mum said sternly.

“Why not we’ve looked after ourselves before?” I snapped.

“Addison.” She sighed, “I was wondering if your friends that you guys have been spending so much time with would mind you staying there. Only if it’s okay with them otherwise you guys will have to stay with Nanny Blake.”

“Not Nanny Blake she makes wear a skirt and talk all proper like.” I whined.

“Well then go ask your friends.” Mum retorted.

I ran up the stairs and picked up my cell phone. “Hello?” Kat’s voice answered.

“Hey, Kat do you mind if Jace and I stay there for a few weeks. Mum’s going away and  we need somewhere to…“

I heard her drop the phone, “Tom, Nathan, Jay, Siva get in here.” I heard Kat yelled, “Can Adds stay over for a while?”

“No,” I heard Max say.

There was a rustling noise then, “Yeah you can.” Kat said to me.

“What?” Max yelled.

“Just let her do what she wants, Max.” Tom said.

“Okay, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” I muttered awkwardly.

I turned to my dresser and began packing. I filled two bags with shirts, jeans and sweaters. I picked up the bags and carried them to Jace’s car so I wouldn’t have to do it tomorrow morning. I skipped up to Jace’s room. She was laying her bed reading a book. I took it out of her hand and placed on her end table.

“I know you’re pissed don’t try to hide it.” I said to her.

“Why would I be pissed?”

“She’s leaving again. I know you hate it. So do I. You don’t have to hide it.” I whispered sitting on the edge of her bed.

“Well yeah it’s not like this is the first time it’s happened.”

“It’s okay to tell her, maybe if you told her she would listen.”

“No she wouldn’t. I’m tired, I’m going to bed. Goodnight.”

“Night.” I said shutting her door.

“Addison, Addison. Addison Blake, the class is this way.” Ms. Hannah yelled.

I snapped my view away from the window to look at her. “And the window’s there.”

“Do you have your homework?”

“No.” I said rubbing my eyes.

“Why not? You knew it was due today.”

“Yeah but I have A.D.D.” I replied.

“And what does that have to do with anything?” she snapped.

“I was doing my homework in a park, there are a lot of distractions in the park.” I said matter-of-factly.

“And if it bothered you so much why didn’t you do it in your room or a solitude chamber?”

“Because I wouldn’t have and excuse for not doing my homework then.” I said shaking my head like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“Hall Miss Blake.” She demanded.

“Do I have to, I’m comfortable.”  I whined.

“Yes you do that or the office.”

“I have a choice? I’m taking the office you’re bothering me.” I got up and left my stuff on my table.

I walked into Mrs. Murray’s office. “Oh God, what did you do now?” she asked slumping into her chair.

“It’s actually what I didn’t do, my English homework.” I chanted proudly.

“For Ms. Hannah?” I nodded, “Go back to class or whatever you want I truly don’t care what you do anymore.”

I walked back up the stairs and into Ms. Hannah’s class. “What are you doing here?” she asked like she was seeing a dead person.

“Getting my stuff, you see I might need it one day. Who am I kidding I never do school work.” I winked at Nathan on my way out.

I walked into the Bio lab where Jace had class. Mr. Smith looked at me curiously, “Hey Mr. Smith.” I nodded. Jace looked up. “I need the keys to the car.”

“Why?” she asked surprised.

“Because the principal told me I could do whatever I want, hell I chilling the car the rest of the day.” I replied, “Hey Jay.” I said to him.

“Hi, Adds.” He said cautiously.

“Thanks,” I said taking the keys from Jace, “Bye Mr. Smith.” I waved leaving the room.

I walked out to Jace car. I opened the glove compartment and looked through her C.D’s. I found an album by The WANTED entitled Battlefield. I put it in the player and listen trough it twice. I could distinguish each person individually. I found myself playing a game trying to guess who was singing. I knew every time Nathan’s voice came on.

A knock on the window made me jump. I looked at Nathan smiling at me I rolled down the window. “Yes?” I asked.

“You just left?” he smirked.

“Hey, I was told I could go, I went.” Jace slide into the driver seat. “See you at the house.” I kissed his cheek then rolled up the window.
