Eren yelled for help as Sarah fell unconscious in his arms. Everyone around him had just pulled out their phones and were recording the whole thing or just stared at the weak girl he was carrying.
"Fucking idiots!!!" he screamed.
Eren noticed a teacher coming down the hall.
"Mr. Troy! Do something!" he shouted at the teacher.
The teacher ran over. He pulled out his phone and dialed 911. There was no way that the school nurse could help with the condition Sarah was in.
A couple minutes later, and ambulance pulled up to the front of the school. Eren carried Sarah to the ambulance, Mr. Troy following. Together, they went to the hospital.Eren sat in the chair next to a sleeping Sarah. She was lying in a hospital bed, tucked under white sheets. A bandage was wrapped around her head. Her arms. Pretty much everywhere. Multiple major bruises had formed all over her body.
After some time, Eren's eyelids began to grow heavy. He soon fell asleep in the hospital chair.Eren awoke to the echoes of yelling in the hallway. He grew curious and decided to peek his head through the doorway of the hospital room. Bad idea. It was his mother arguing with Sarah's doctor and Mr. Troy.
"...it doesn't mean that he can just stay here with this girl!"
The doctor said something that Eren couldn't understand.
"I don't care! He doesn't--" she noticed Eren. "You! Come out here right now!" she ordered.
Eren ducked back into Sarah's hospital room. He could hear his mother speed stomping towards the room. It took a minute before Eren heard Mr. Troy and the doctors footsteps following after her.
She entered the room, grabbed Eren by the front of his shirt and tugged him towards her, making him face his mother more.
"What were you thinking?" she whispered in his face.
She suddenly slapped him across one side of his face, then back handed him across the other, knocking him to the ground. She kicked him once our twice before Mr. Troy pulled her back as the the doctor helped Eren to his feet.
Eren's mother calmed down, still glaring at Eren and Mr. Troy. The doctor gave Eren some ice and tended to Sarah some more, checking the monitor, or whatever.
After about an hour, Eren's mother spoke up.
"That's it. I'm leaving. You can walk home, you little shit." she glared at him, then left the room.
Eren sat back in the chair beside Sarah's bed. He stared at his feet, choking back tears, making his throat hurt.
"Hey," said a voice "are you okay?"
Eren nodded. "Yeah." He choked out.
It was Mr. Troy who had spoken to him. He was leaning on a wall, his hands in his pockets.
"Does your mother always treat you like that?" he asked.
Eren said nothing. He just remained still, staring at his shoes. He didn't know what to say. Was this person actually concerned about him? There was no way.
"Eren." Mr. Troy shrugged himself off of the wall. "Does your mother always treat you like that?" he repeated the question, more sternly this time.
Eren looked up at the history teacher. He got nervous and began to twidle his fingers.
"No."
Mr. Troy pulled over a stool that was close by and placed a seat right in front of Eren.
"Tell me the truth, Eren." Mr. Troy ordered.
That was when Eren couldn't hold it back anymore. He lost his grip. He broke down, tears rapidly streamed down his cheeks.
"Yes." he replied in sadness.
Eren heard Mr. Troy sigh.
I can't believe that I just told Mr. Troy the truth. I'm so dead!
Eren stood up, getting ready to ran out of the room. He suddenly froze in place as a pair of large arms wrapped around his shoulders. Time seemed to stand still. Was Mr. Troy hugging him? Eren wasn't sure how to react.
Once Mr. Troy let go off Eren, Eren sat back down, still shocked.
"I wish I would've known before, you know, about your mom." said Mr. Troy.
"M-my dad is the s-same w-way." Eren mumbled.
Mr. Troy sighed. "I wish I would've known sooner. I really do. I would've at least tried to help."
Eren stayed quiet, silently crying.
"Listen." said Mr. Troy.
Eren looked up at him. His eyes were red and sore, burning with a tingling sensation from still trying to lock away his tears and still failing to do so.
"I gotta go. If you need anything, just talk to me. I will listen. Just..... talk to me."
Eren sniffled. "But... what if I don't think talking will solve anything? It won't, you know."
"Who knows. Just getting these kind of things out of your head and into the world can change things." Mr. Troy replied.
Eren shrugged. Mr. Troy stood up and headed towards the door. He stopped when he reached the doorway and turned to face Eren.
"Oh, and Eren?"
"Yeah?"
"Please don't hurt yourself tonight."
Mr. Troy walked out of the room as soon as Eren glanced up at him with a look of shock. He looked down at his bandaged arms. He noticed. Eren thought, He really noticed.
Suddenly, a man burst into the room. He wore a grey tank top with wet spots on it and a pair of baggy, navy blue shorts. He was bald and had quite the beer belly.
"Where's the little bitch?!" he yelled.
His eyes landed on Sarah. Then they moved and landed on Eren, an angered look appearing on his face.
"Did you do this?" he asked aggressively, pointing at Sarah.
"W-what?! N-no! Of course n-not!! I'm her friend!!" Eren objected.
"Sarah doesn't have friends!! She doesn't deserve 'em!! She's a worthless piece of shit!" he shouted.
Eren jumped put of his seat. "NO, SHE IS NOT!!!"
The man got in Eren's face. His breath reeked of alcohol.
"Don't you DARE tell me what my daughter is and isn't." he said, spit barely hitting Eren in the face.
Eren wiped his face. "You shouldn't be doing it either, then."
The man's fist flew into Eren's jaw. The last thing Eren heard was shouts from the doctor. And a weak, feminine voice cry, "No!"
