I wouldn’t say that I was happy nonetheless that she was out of the job. I’ve always knew that there was a creep hiding beneath that straight faced jerk she used to call boss, but that also meant she had less money to live with.
All that means is that she’ll be spending the rest of the week worrying over where to get money. It’s a long been established fact that she’ll refuse my help. But the lack of better lead to where she’ll find work doesn’t give her confidence that she could survive on her own. It was just something that she’ll have to deal with.
“Sam…”
“I’ve been doing the math Dean. I know what this paper I’m holding says. And I’m still not taking any help from you.” Sam cut off.
“Sam…” I protested.
“But, I am making a loan.”
“A loan?” I asked not sure what she really meant.
“I’m not taking any money from you that you’ll give too willingly. You may have a lot of them to throw away. But I have too little to understand that each dollar has worth to be just wasted.”
“Sam…” I began protesting again.
“I’m not finished.” She cut me off again. “I’ll promise to pay it up to you in the future.” She continued.
“You do know that I’m going to refuse payment.” I commented.
“If you do, then I’ll find work off town.”
I wouldn’t say that I like the idea of her paying up, but with that condition, I’m going to have to put up with what she was proposing than put up with her making life difficult for her own sake.
“Is that all?” I asked.
“I think that about covers it all up.”
“Fine.” I agreed groaning. “I’m going to give you a loan.” I said through my teeth. Then an idea hit me. There wasn’t any more conditions that she put up, so I guess I can put up one of my own. “Payable in one thousand years.” I said smugly.
“That’s not fair!” She shouted.
“Well you didn’t specify when you have to pay it.” On top of that, she didn’t say that I can’t deposit her payment on her account later. But I’d rather keep that fact out in case she gets any idea. “So, do we have a deal?”
“Fine.” She shook my hand reluctantly, and with an incredible amount of force on her grip. She stared at me with knife sharp eyes and I know full well that it was because she didn’t expect me to do that. However, I also know that because she didn’t refuse, that put her in a tight deal that she can’t walk away from. It was just something that she’ll have to deal with at the moment.
That doesn’t mean I enjoy blackmailing her. In some way, I felt guilty to what I did. She’d been making very difficult decisions for a few years now, and cornering her like that might have actually made her remember all of those decisions. I guess it was something that I have to live with too.
“So, where to now?” I asked her to try and shake off that feeling.
“Lunch break’s almost over. Let’s just head back.” She answered with a little anger still present with that answer.
I reached for her bag the same time she did. It looked like she was about to take it forcefully from me, but she let me get it any way. I tried to figure out what she was feeling, but before I could, she walked out. I followed her out in to the car and unlocked the security before she reaches it. She immediately seated on the passenger side and I quickly followed. I started the car engine but didn’t put it on drive immediately. I want to ask her first.
