I am reading a book about politics in my room when I hear yelling down the hall. I pull my face out of the book. "Six years of the Crowley legacies, over with you!" I heard my dad yell. "Dad! Its no big deal!" my twin sister, Katy, yelled back at my dad. "No big deal?! Its a vast deal!"
I put down the book, frustrated and incapable of focusing on my book, and walk into the living room where they are arguing.
My dad sees me and his eyes light up. "Why cant you be more like Aaron?! He has perfect grades in all of his classes!" he yelled at her, and handing me a slip of paper with my grades. They're all A+'s
"Because Aaron is perfect in every single way" she threw her hands in the air. "Oh yes he is! He already applied and was accepted into the University of Chicago!" he yelled. "Why cant you just do one thing and get into college?" he continued. "Aaron will carry out the legacy, right Aaron?" she asked. I shake my head. "Don't bring me into this altercation" I said quietly. "Ill try my hardest not to" my dad said quietly.
They continue to quarrel but I take no notice of them. "Mom, why'd you have to go?" I sigh quietly and then look at my watch. Im bewildered at the time. "Dad, Id hate to interrupt your quarrel, but its time for the aptitude testing at school" I apologized. "No worries son, you are forgiven. You can choose to take my car" he said handing me his car keys. "Thank you" I smiled and walked out of the front door with Katy in front of me.
"Why cant I drive?" Katy whines. "Because, do you really think dad is going to let you drive after the quarrel you two just had?" I asked starting up our blue car. She laughs sarcastically. "Its not funny Katy. What would you do if Jeanine Mathews found out about this?" I asked. "Jeanine wont" "How are you so sure?" I asked making a right turn. "Our dad is a leader of Erudite. They would never suspect a leaders young daughter to be failing a class" she said rolling down the window. I shake my head and sigh. "Besides, she favors you" she said loudly over the wind. "She does n-" "Don't fish for compliments Aaron! Don't deny it. You know its true" she said, not making eye contact with me.
Its true. I know I was. Ever since I helped her create a new serum, but I don't know what the purpose of that serum was. All she needed was a missing variable, and I was there to help her.
The rest of the drive to school was awkward and silent. I wanted to ask her what faction she would pick but we weren't suppose to talk about those kinds of things. Especially if you were Erudite born.
We make it to school, and as soon as we do, she walks with her friends to the line to get her aptitude test over with. I lock the car and someone covers my eyes with their hands. Their hands are soft and they smell like lemon grass. "Judging by the smell of your lemon grass cologne and your soft hands..." I remove their hands, turn around, and smile. "Hi Aaron" said Xander. "Hi" I smiled back.
Since he was Abnegation, he couldn't hug or kiss someone. So all he gives me is a handshake. Xander and i have been dating for seven months and twelve days. "Im happy to see you again" he smiled. Im starting to reconsider dating Xander. He's a really nice guy and all but, he Abnegation. They're boring, no fun. "Me too" I sigh. "Whats wrong?" he asked. "Nothing" I said putting my hands behind my back. Its a good thing neither one of us is in Candor.
He shrugs his shoulders. "Alright then" he said starting to walk onto campus. I follow.
I see a blend of colors ad we walk past the halls. Gray for Abnegation, Black for Dauntless, Blue for Erudite, Black and White for Candor, then Red and Yellow for Amity. "Are you ready?" he asked. "For the Aptitude test" he continued. I sigh and nod my head.
