The Dauntless run out of the Hub. "What do we do?" asked the Amity girl next to me. "We follow them" I told her, then caught up to the front of the pack.

Im never going to be an Erudite again. Im not going to see Katy in a while but Ill see my dad if he chooses to come to visiting day.

An initiate ahead of me points to a train. A moving train. I look to my side and the Amity girl is next to me. "Are we...going to have...to jump onto...that thing?!" she panted. "I guess...so" I said getting closer to the train. My legs burn, my chest burn, I feel like im going to pass out, but the idea of becoming factionless haunts my mind so I continue to run, baring the pain around my body.

The Amity girl passes me up and jumps onto the train. I feel my knees go weak but a hand grabs mine and they fling me onto the train. I hit the opposite wall with my left shoulder but I fall to the floor due to my weak knees.

I breathe loudly, along with everyone else. I open my eyes and see the Candor boy, his hands on his knees, breathing just as hard as me. "I thought...you would...like to...at least...make it through...initiation" he smiled. "Thanks" I smiled at him. His hair-a dark brown-reflects the sunlight off of it. "Im...Matthew" he held out his hand for me to shake. "Aaron" I replied and shake his hand, still laying down.

The Amity girl is sitting in the corner, her knees pulled up to her chest, her arms hugging her legs.

I sit up, my back against the wall. Matthew sits next to me. "So you're from Erudite?" he asked. "I can tell by the blue" he continued. "Then why ask?" I asked. He shrugs his shoulder. "Just to make sure." "And judging by the white jacket and black pants...you're from Candor?" he chuckles. "Aren't you the smart little Erudite" he laughed. "Im not little" I stood up. He stands up and were about the same height. He's maybe about half an inch taller that me. "Whens your birthday?" he asked. "February" I replied. "Im a January baby" he smiled. "Whatever" I punched his shoulder lightly.

"Everyone get ready to jump!" yelled a loud voice. "What?!" I panicked. Matthew walks over to the open door. "Were going to jump" he looked back at me. "Off of a seven-storied building" he continued.

I look over at the Amity girl. Shes curled up in the corner. "Come on. We have to go" I walked to her. "No. I cant. Im scared of heights" she quivered. "Either that or you're factionless" I held out my hand.

She shakes her head. "Good luck" I said walking back. Once Im facing frontwards I mumble. "You'll need it"

"You ready?" Matthew asked. I swallow loudly. "Yeah"

If people jump off at the wrong time, they fall to their death. Why did I choose Dauntless?! Maybe to get away from my dad? From the same routine every single day? No. I wanted to be free.

Once the roof is almost aligned with the door of the train, Matthew and I jump.

I land, but scrape my hands and knees. "You alright?" Matthew asked. I rub the blood of my hands and onto my pants. "Im fine" I winced. Everyone else jumps but the Amity girl.

Theres one last guy from Abnegation. We all cheer him on. Shouts surround me. He jumps and slips off the edge. I run forwards to him, but a hand grabs my bicep. Matthew. "We need to see if-" I said before I heard a loud snapping sound.

I then notice...that he's dead. Being Dauntless isn't going to be easy. There will be huge risks.

An instructor tells us that we then have to jump off the building and into this small hole at the bottom. "No way!" most of us shouted. "Well good luck being factionless" he smirked. I start to walk past the crowd of initiates. "Ill go" I volunteered. Everyone looks at me as I pass. The instructor laughs. "Oh please. An Erudite. First jumper?! Okay sure. Id love to see this" he gestured towards the bottom.

I look over the edge and see that theres nothing in the hole. Nothing. But Im an Erudite. Im not stupid. This is a scare tactic to see if were brave enough.

I stand over the ledge and countdown from three. "Three. Two. One"

And I feel wind passing through all my clothes. My stomach feels like its going to find its way up to my throat. Then I land on something. A net.

I bounce up then down again. I roll off the net once I hear yelling coming from above us. A Dauntless helps me off. "My name is Four. Welcome to Dauntless"
