My life as Dauntless

Part 10

My eyes flutter open and I see Eric asleep. I smile and shake his shoulder. "Eric. You're going to be late." I laughed. "A few more minutes." he whined. I roll my eyes and smile. "Okay. You asked for it." I leaned over to kiss him. His lips are warm and taste sweet. I pull away in time to see his eyes open. "Now Im up." he stretched. "Good morning." I got up and changed into the training clothes provided for us.

Eric gets changed and does his hair in half the time I would. "Ill see you on the mat." he kissed my temple and left.

I smile at the mirror. I look at my hair and fix it the way I usually would- combed up and to the side. I shake my head. "I need something new." I whined.

I see brown hair dye sitting in the corner of the bathroom counter. I look at the mirror again and smirk. I get the dye and get to work.

When Im done, my brown hair has a blond streak at the tip of my hair. I comb it up and to the side and walk out to the Pit.

As I arrive, Sam walks over to me with two of her guy friends behind her. "What happened to you?!" she asked surprised. "You look hot!" "Thanks." I smiled at her. Sam smiles and nods her head then walks away. "Hi." smiled one of the boys. "Hey." I looked at the floor. "My names Josh." he held out his hand. I shake it. "Ace." "Im Pierce." smiled the other boy. I smile at him. "Hi."

"Are you hungry?" Josh asked. I nod my head. "Come on." he smiled. I follow behind Josh and Pierce.

We walk to the Pit and get our breakfast- muffins.

"What kind do you get?" Josh asked me, taking a bite of his muffin. I observe mine and bite onto it. "Chocolate." I said with my mouth full. Josh and Pierce laugh.

"Attention!" I heard Eric yell. I turn around, and so do Pierce and Josh.

"Today you'll be learning to fire a gun." Eric smirked and put his hands behind his back. "Everyone meet at the roof!" Four added. "Dauntless-borns, go with Lauren. The rest of you come with us." Eric and Four left the Pit. "Do we follow them?" Matt asked, next to Pierce. His eyes find mine and I notice he has a black eye.

"Did I do that to you?" I smirked at Matt. "Ha-ha." Matt crossed his arms.

Pierce and Josh walk ahead of us, and Matt and I follow behind them. "I hope you know that I three the fight." Matt stared ahead. "Sure." I replied.

The idea of him asking out Emit and then asking me out still haunts my mind, waiting for it to be answered.

I pull him aside. "What are you doing?!" he whispered. "Why would you ask out Emit, then ask me out?" I asked. "What?" "Just answer the question." He sighs. "I was only asking out Emit to get you jealous... so you would like me." he looked at the floor.

All this time Ive thought that he asked me out because I thought I was just a booty-call to him.

I feel horrible now.

"I like you Aaron- I mean Ace." he corrected himself. I smile at the floor. "You're smart, you're hot, you're fun to be around..." he finally looked up at me and smiled reassuringly.

Throughout our conversation, Eric kept popping up in my mind. "No! You cant date Matt while you're dating Eric!" my conscience yelled at me over and over.

Does Matt even know that Eric and I are together? What would he do if he found out? All of these questions ran through my head.

I look up at Matt. "Im sorry for giving you a black eye." I looked at the floor. "Hey hey hey." he lifted up my chin so that I looked at him. "Don't be." he looked into my eyes. He inches closer to my face and I quickly pull away. "I cant do this!" I ran my hand through my hair. "What do you-" "Im already dating someone." "Who?" he asked. I swallow a lump in my throat. "Eric." I said. His jaw drops. "What do you see in him?!" he yelled. I shrug. "He... likes me just like I like him." "I like you more than he does!" Matt protested. "So?" "I can be a better boyfriend!" he said. I laugh. "Matt, you could barely protect yourself against me... what makes you think you can protect me?" I asked.
