The New Officer

"I walked into to the store to see this guy holding  a gun to her head" an officer brags to his coworkers. 

"I said, 'think about your family'. He dropped the gun and he started weeping'" 

"Like a baby?" asked an officer in the back

"Like a baby, Tomlin" the officer replies.

Lieutenant Mils walked in quietly. He watches the office continue to amaze the room with his story. Mils chuckles to himself which causes attention to him. 

"That's funny Officer Mendez, from what I remember you had to call for backup" Lt. Mils says as he walks to the front of the room. 

"A man can dream right Lieutenant?" Officer Mendez replied, shrugging his shoulders. 

"well, it's time to wake up. We have a new Officer here. Officer Bellow. Transferred from Summer's County" Lt. Mils said.

"Summer's County...what a softie" an officer from the back commented.

The room filled with laughter. Lt. Mils shook his head.

"Officers, be nice. We have a very important task at hand and he won't need any bullshit" Lt. Mils demands.

All the officers shake their head in agreement. Lt. Mils looks at the door behind him and signals a man to come in. All the officers turn around. The door opens slowly and a tall, pale man walks in. The man looks around at everyone.

"This is Officer Bellow" Lt. Mils announces to the officers.

Officer Bellow walks slowly to the front. He nods at every officer as he walks by.

"What magazine cover did jump out of?"one officer whispers.

"such a pretty boy" another officer says rolling his eyes.

Officer Bellow gets to the front and stand next to Lt. Mils. Many of the female officers look at them with lust in their eyes. Bellow sees this and winks at one of the female officers. She begins to blush. Their exchange is interrupted by Lt. Mils clearing his throat.

"Bellow, met your family away from home." Lt. Mils says.

Bellow look around at the strange faces mixed in with the faces of lust and admiration.

"Yup, this is my family alright. So who will my partner be?" Bellow asks.

"umm..let's see....Mendez! you and Bellow are partners now" Lt. Mils points at Mendez.

Mendez springs up from his chair.

"WHAT?! you want me to work with "pretty boy" here?" Mendez's outburst startles everyone in the room.

" Mendez enough!" Lt. Mils says.

The officers try to convince Mendez to sit down. Mendez looks at the Lt. and sit down clenching his jaw. Lt. Mils looks at Officer Bellow and pats him on the back. 

"Alright listen, today's mission is to find out where and who is in charged of the inflation of marijuana distribution in this town. Mendez and Bellow you two start near the schools and Martin and Hicks you too are to be near the shopping areas." Lt. Mils commands.

"lets go pretty boy" Mendez says at he gets up and walks out the room. 

Bellow follows. 

"As for the rest of you.... desk duty and traffic" Lt. Mils says as he gets up and goes to his office.

Bellow follows Mendez and they walk to the squad car. They both get in. Bellow grabs Mendez hand before he turns the car on.

"I just want to say that despite your comments earlier, I am still happy to be your partner" Bellow says with a smile. 

Mendez looks at Bellow, scoffs and starts the car. Bellow puts on his seat belt and stares out the window. Mendez and Bellow pull out of the parking lot. They drive for about 5 minutes before Mendez opens his mouth.

"Mils knows that I am a hot head. So he figured if you were around then that would even my temperature." Mendez says.

"Well, I'll do my best" Bellow says, breathing a sigh of relief.

They stop at a red light and Mendez sharply looks at Bellow. And put his index finger up at Bellow. 

" You pretty boys are all the same. Walking around with your big egos thinkin' the world will bow down to you. These criminals don't give a shit what you look like..they want what to cause pain and will not hesitate to kill." Mendez spits.

Light turns green and Mendez continues to drive. Bellow sits there in silence and looks at the upcoming sign that says "Bailridge High School". Mendez breaks hard causing Bellow to thrust forward in his seat. Seeing this, Mendez let out a little chuckle.
