The Heart Of Scars

Chapter 4

   It's been a week since I first got here and now I have to go to school. This past week was fun, I did a lot of stuff with my new friends and dad. I really do hope that school goes well!

   "Jasper! It's time to leave, you'll miss the bus if you don't go now!" I hear as Robert calls from the front door. I get up from my bed and stop thinking so I can run to the door and leave with dad. As I get to the door Robert pulls me into a strong hug. "I hope you have a great first day of school, although I'm sad I can't see you get on the bus I'm happy that you'll be able to go to school here. Since we could never have a child together, Lily and I always wanted a to be able to see a kid we were proud to call ours, go to school. And that's you Jasper... If only she could see this day..." With misty eyes he smiles softly at me.

   "I'm sure she is watching right now and is just as happy as you. So you don't have to get sad," I tell him to brighten his mood. He nods his head and ruffles up my hair causing me to frown playfully at him and try to fix my hair. "Well we better get going or we're gonna be late," I tell him.

   "Okay let's get on our way," He says as we both climb into his truck. After a minute he stops at the bus stop and I get out. He waves and I return it. He drives off towards his work leaving me with people who I don't know except for Ace, Nico and Sky. Speaking of them I don't see Ace, just Nico and Sky. I walk over to them.

   "Hey guys where's Ace?" as soon as the question leaves my mouth, I see Ace running away from a group of girls. Well there he is.

   "Hey sorry I'm late they wouldn't leave me alone," he chuckles as I stare at him surprised, "Did you think I wasn't popular with the ladies?"

   "Yeah, I didn't think you were popular with them," I reply to his question.

  He smirks and winks at me and the girls behind me, "Well now you know," he snickers as the girls behind me squeal. Nico just sighs as Ace starts talking to Sky.

   "It's obvious that she doesn't like him but he still tries..... Well maybe she could like him, we wouldn't know for sure... I mean like, she is really good at hiding how she feels when its needed," he tells me. I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn around to see two girls. One of them is tall and skinny with long brown hair with blond hi-lights and green, while the other is short and a little chunky with short dark brown hair and a chocolate brown eye color. Well, they look nice. I smile at them and the shorter one tells the tall girl to tell me something, but the tall one just tells the short girl to do it instead; it repeats once more so the shorter one sighs and finally agrees.

   "H-hello, my name is Becca. This is my friend, Alice," Alice waves at me awkwardly, "Well, we were wondering.... are you new here? We've never seen you around and if there was someone at our school with your looks they would be well known," Becca blushes at the end of her sentence knowing that it was embarrassing to me as well as her.

   I flush embarrassed at being called good looking, even if it was indirect. "Yes, I'm new here I just moved in a week ago with my father Robert. I'm Jasper," I nod.

   "Ohhh, so you're Robert's adopted kid... Jasper... they said you were cute but I didn't think it would be you," Alice joins in the conversation. As soon as Alice ends her sentence the bus pulls up to the curb. "Well, see you later Jasper!" they walk on the bus and I head towards Nico and the others to get in line and talk.

   "What was that about?" Sky asks me.

   "They were just wondering if I was new," I reply.

   "My baby just started getting hit on by girls.... They grow up so fast!" Ace wipes away a fake tear when I playfully punched his shoulder.

   "I did not!" I laugh at his 'motherly' expression while getting on the bus last.

   I give the bus driver my name and tell him i'm new. While I was talking to the bus driver I felt a hot feeling on my back. I look behind after I finish and see that everyone is staring at me and talking.
   Awkwardly I walk towards the empty seat next to Nico, But as soon I go to sit down the bus lurches forward causing me to trip and land on the floor. I hear a few snickers but then Ace stands up and tells them to shut up and sits back down grumpily.
   Sky helps me up with Ace next to her grumbling about the people laughing. I awkwardly laugh and tell Ace to calm down while going to sit down again, this time it's successful. Great... Just great... I haven't even stepped foot into the school and I already embarrassed myself.

   We get to school and Nico shows me to the front office. Nico turns the corner and runs to get to class in time. I walk in and see a lady sitting at the desk, I tell the lady my information while she puts it into the computer. She then tells me to go sit down and I will be called to the principles office soon. After the small wait I am called to meet with the principle. He tells me about all the different activities that I can do here and then gives me a paper that shows all my classes. My first class is cooking, P.E., reading, science, Spanish, math, and finally history. Well, it sounds like it's gonna be a busy day today.

   I walk with the principle down the hallway to my first class. He opens the door and starts talking to my new teacher while I stand next to them looking for any of my friends. I start to feel a burning again and I find that everyone is staring at me.... again. Some of them are even laughing with their friends while staring. My ears start to burn when I realize they were on the bus and saw me fall.
   All of a sudden I spot Becca and Alice and I wave at them. They wave back. The principle clears his throat causing everyone quiet down.

"Everyone if you would please be quiet and listen to Ms.Smith she has an important announcement to make," he looks at Ms.Smith and tells her that he will take his leave. She nods back at him.

"Today we have a new student that will be joining us! His name is Jasper and he has moved here for a fresh start. Now please welcome him and help him if he needs it," she concludes her speech and watches as the others keep their eyes trained on me. A moment later she turns to me and tells me to go sit by a guy who looks like he doesn't even like the thought of me being here.

The day has just begun and I'm already tired of it....
