Kellin's POV

"And we used to not be able to keep pants on the child! He'd run around the house completely naked, it's a wonder he wears cloths now." Mrs. Fuentes laughed. "Actually I think I have a picture of him like that, well he's got his Dads guitar and he sat right here on that coffee table and acted like he knew how to play without a stitch of clothes on." She said getting up and going to a shelf over in the corner of the room. Vic groaned from beside of me and I chuckled as he covered his face.

"Mama!" He whined.
"Oh shush Victor." She said and brought a leather bound photo album back over to the couch. "Let me see." She mumbled to herself and started flipping through the filled pages of the book. I watched all the pictures go by and I couldn't help but smile. They all looked so happy. "Here it is!" She exclaimed with glee and pulled a picture out of the album and handed it to me. Sure enough it was a small, well smaller, Vic, bare of any clothing, sitting on the table with a guitar that was practically bigger than him.

"I remember that day so well," Mr. Fuentes started. "Vic had been itching to get his hands on my guitar all day and finally, being the great Dad I am," he said winking. "I let my little mini me have it. He played, well more like just hit the strings, until they broke. He looked so happy but once they snapped he said sorry a hundred times," He laughed. "Then he told me one day he would be famous and he would buy me all the guitar strings I wanted."
"That right there was Vic first guitar." Mrs. Fuentes added. "He still plays it today."
"I didn't even know he played." I said and Vic's Mom scoffed.
"Kellin dear he does more than just okay. The strings themselves practically sing when he touches them." She turned towards Vic. "Vic go get your guitar and play for us."
"Mama I-"
"Please. I would love to hear that one song that you wrote inspired by your Dad." She smiled at him and Vic got up off of the couch.
"Okay he plays guitar, sings I'm guessing, writes songs, and he can basically fix anything. What can't he do?" I said with a laugh.

As we waited for Vic to come back down stairs Jake walked over to me and climbed in my lap. "Uncle Vic said he was gonna teach me guitar!" He said with a bright smile. "And my Papa is gonna teach me the drums! I can be a one man band!" He said with a gleam in his eyes.
"That's right little man." Vic said scaring everyone. He laughed and took a seat on the coffee table so he was be just about center of everyone. He took a deep breath and shook his head a little before his fingers started gliding across the guitar strings and his voice rang out in the silence like a impossible dream.

"So what if I was just a painter? Painting houses on the rich blue coast," My jaw dropped and I was memorized by his voice. "Would you ever try to leave me for somebody who deserves you most? Cause darling I am just a painter," Vic looked at me and smiled and I felt myself blushing slightly. "I'm painting houses for the rich old folks. I'm gonna make a million dollars, cause nobody's gonna steal you no, for diamonds and gold."

I couldn't take my eyes off of him. The way his lips moved as the words danced out of his mouth and the way his tan fingers moved down the neck of the guitar.
"He quite good isn't he?" His Mom whispered to me as she smiled at her boy. I nodded at her and she laid an arm across my shoulders and pulled me a little closer as she hummed along with Vic.  Vic's eyes locked with mine and they stayed that way as he continued singing. I couldn't break away from his gaze and to be honest I didn't want to.

Too soon for my liking the song ended and I was left in awe.
"You...you're amazing Vic." I told him in a breathless like voice. He scratched the back of his neck and I swore I saw his cheeks turn the faintest of pink.
"Thanks Kells." We just kind of smiled at each other until his mother patted me on the back.
"Well Kellin come join me in the kitchen and I'll show you all my secrets." She slowly got up and with a smile to Vic I followed behind her after handing Jake to Mike.

Vic's POV

I stared after Kellin as he followed my Mom into the kitchen.
"Tell me something," my Dad said pulling my gaze away from Kellin. "He is the kid of the man you work for right?"
"Yes Papa."
"Vic," he sighed. "Don't let yourself get caught up in a mess again." He started and I just shook my head.
"Pa-"
"Don't. Just let me finish." He said sternly.   "Son I know we can't help who we lust after, but that's the thing. You need to learn the difference between love and lust. I know you have a habit of falling for people to quickly. You're head over heels while they're just searching for a good time. You need to keep a straight head over your shoulders. You cannot let one boy ruin the life you've made for yourself. You have a great job and fooling around with the man's kid wouldn't sit too well with him I'm sure. Think before you act Vic and don't let yourself fall for something that could never happen."

I stared at my Dad in disbelief.
"I know what I'm doing." I said and pushed myself up off the coffee table.
"Keep what I said in mind Victor!" He yelled out to me as I shut the front door and took a seat on the porch step. I know I fall for people quickly. I'm in love with the idea of love, as funny as that sounds. I have a few one night stands and they mean nothing but when I actually like someone I like them with everything in me. I'm quick to grow feelings and that's my weakness. My Dad has a point but Kellin's different. It's not going to be a repeat of the past where I lose everything. Kellin's different and that's what I like.
