The dreaded noise

I walked out of the apartment and stood next to Daniel LaRusso as my foster mother, Sherry, came over to say bye. I could see that she had a big smile on her face. This was usual behavior for Sherry, as you would normally see her smiling. She must have liked the fact that I had already made a friend and we had only been there for a few hours.

"Bye guys, it was lovely meeting you Daniel. I hope to see you again!" Sherry said, still smiling. I smiled back and Daniel smiled too, nodding to Sherry. Both me and Daniel then closed the door and walked  down the stairs to the exit of the apartment block. We found the exit block eventually, and we set off towards the direction of the beach.

We eventually reached the beach, and I could hear the sound of the waves clashing on large rocks nearby. It was such a beautiful sound, and as soon as I turned around the corner, I could see the sunset on the horizon of the sea. I noticed that there was a large group of boys playing football and a group of girls who were sitting on towels and listening to music.

Daniel smiled and we walked down the stone steps and stood on the soft sand below. I had always loved the sand, it was so flowing and warm. The group of boys who were playing football walked up to Daniel. The boys asked if Daniel wanted to play football with them, and he of course said yes.

"Do you mind, Autumn?" Daniel asked, while catching the ball that one of the boys gave him.  I didn't mind at all, as long as he spent a little bit of time with me at one point. It would actually be fun to watch Daniel play football.

"Not at all, go ahead" I said to Daniel, smiling and gesturing for him to go and play football with the boys. I remember when I used to play football; I would often win. It wouldn't feel right to play football anywhere else but New Jersey. I sat on the sand and looked over at the sea. I loved looking at the sea; something about it was so calming and peaceful.

At that moment, the peacefulness disappeared. In the distance, I could hear motorbikes roaring with speed. No one seemed to notice the noise apart from me and another girl in the group listening to music. Naturally, it was normal to hear motorbikes, but something about the noise was unsettling and  I couldn't get the noise out of my head.  The motorbikes were getting closer and closer by the minute. It was still a noise that was unnerving and it made me feel slightly vulnerable here on the beach.

Daniel was still playing football with his friends, and I could see that he would glance over to me every now and then. I smiled and watched him play, trying to find a distraction from the noise. It was a difficult task, but the sight of Daniel having fun took my mind off of the dreaded noise.

Half an hour passed, and Daniel was still playing football with his new friends. I still didn't mind though; there was time for us to talk after. Or at least I thought there was...
