The Halloween Dance

It was the day of the Halloween dance. Most of the girls at my school were chatting non-stop about it, even in class. I don't think anyone learnt anything that day apart from what people were wearing. I wasn't sharing what I was wearing, and neither was Daniel.

The main reason for why we weren't sharing what we would be wearing is that the Cobra Kai would find out. We had heard that they would be going to the dance and we didn't want to be anywhere near them. We have been narrowly avoiding them over the week we have been at school for.

Daniel mentioned that the Cobra Kai tried fighting him in his sports lesson. I shook my head and sighed. This was just getting out of control. I just wished that they would stop and leave us alone.

After school, I went back to the apartments and opened the door. Sherry said that she would buy me an outfit on her way home from work that day. As I walked into my bedroom, I saw my costume laid on my bed. I picked it up and examined it.

The costume that Sherry bought me was stunning. It was a little red riding hood costume, complete with shiny black shoes and a beautiful red cape. She had even bought me a little basket that had fake loafs of bread sticking out of it. I gasped and admired it, running up to Sherry and telling her thank you multiple times.

Soon it was time to get ready for the dance. I placed the beautiful red, black and white dress over my head and adjusted it to my waist. It suited me perfectly.

Next I fastened the red cape around my neck and applied some blood red lipstick to my lips. I put the little basket on my arm and fastened the glossy black shoes onto my feet. I styled my hair into cute curls, wrapping each section of hair on the curler.

I was all ready for the dance.

I knocked on Daniel's apartment door, waiting for him to come out. If I thought I was hardly recognizable, it was nothing compared to Daniel. The aim for both of us was to look different, and he definitely got that right.

Daniel came out in a shower curtain with a bar holding it up over his head. This was his Halloween costume. He pulled the curtains back so I could see his face and he was smiling. He saw my costume and he gaped at me. He was clearly stuck for words.

"Autumn, you look amazing" he finally got the words out. I could feel myself blushing a little as I thanked him for his kind words. He's such a sweet boy.

We walked down the road and to the school where tons of other students were standing outside with their friends. We walked into the school hall where the party was being held. As soon as we walked inside, music blasted loudly and it was a very lively environment. People were dancing everywhere and there was no sign of the Cobra Kai. All was good for now.

Ali walked up to us and smiled at me. She whispered something into the shower curtain which made Daniel open the curtains and let her in. I smiled and watched as he winked at me and closed the curtains. It was great to see that Daniel was mingling with Ali, and she seemed to be a nice girl. She was kind to both me and Daniel, and we appreciated that. Pretty much everyone else stayed away from us because they were scared that they would get cornered by the Cobra Kai if they were friends with us.

"I just need to go to the toilet. I'll be back in a few minutes" Daniel said to me, looking quite entranced at the door to the toilet. I nodded, but I had a bad feeling about it. I saw some boys dressed as skeletons that were also walking into the boys' toilets.

A few moments later, Daniel was running out of the toilets. Behind him, a very wet boy dressed as a skeleton was running after him, which was Johnny. I looked over to Ali and noticed that she had her foot out, and I smiled. Johnny tripped over Ali's foot which gave Daniel a chance to run further from him. The other members of the Cobra Kai saw what Johnny was doing, and joined in, running with Johnny.

Bobby Brown, a member of the Cobra Kai, grabbed me and pulled me along too. I tried to fight him off but his grip was so strong. It was just impossible to escape his grip. I could see Daniel climbing over a fence but Johnny and the rest of his group quickly grabbed him before he could do so.

Bobby pulled me along and shoved me next to Daniel. I couldn't escape; we were surrounded. I could feel my heart beating so fast, just like it was at the beach.

"You just couldn't leave it, could you?! You just had to push it...now you're going to pay" Johnny said, looking so mad. One of the Cobra Kai members grabbed Daniel and kept him still so that Johnny could beat him up. Another member grabbed me to make sure I didn't do anything.

"I bet you had something to do with it didn't you, freak?!" Johnny said to me, his face going red with rage. I was shaking with fear, but I wanted to hold my head up high. I didn't want to give them the satisfaction; so I didn't say a word and pretended that I couldn't hear him.

Johnny noticed that I was ignoring him and punched me hard, making me double over with pain. I could hear a scuffle and Daniel was trying to reach me while getting beaten up badly. Johnny told Bobby to beat me up while he dealt with Daniel. I could feel a hard punch to the eye, just when my black eye was healing.

I looked over to Daniel who seemed to be so weak that he couldn't even stand up. I wasn't much better off than him, even though I hadn't done anything. Bobby kept hitting me, and I could feel myself slipping in and out of consciousness just like Daniel. The pain was so intense, I was sure that I would be dead within minutes.
