There's a Universe in Here

I've seen so many stars

and don't remember every one

that doesn't mean they don't exist

my heart belongs to the sun

I've gazed up at the moon

lost in thought and memorized

the gleaming distant pearl

reflected in my brown eyes

I've worn the rings of Saturn

colored the sky with Neptunes blue

felt my cheeks flush with the redness of Mars

and  bid Pluto adieu

I've not lived that many years 

yet still, my heart overflows

with all I've seen and learned

and the weight of what I don't know

there's a universe in here

trying to escape my soul

its light is bright and blinding 

sometimes I lose control

theses a universe in here

there are light years or pain 

there are galaxies of worry

and bittersweet milky ways

all travelers grow weary

all explorers grow old

soon we all grow tired 

of exploring the great unknown

but while our hearts are young 

our ambitions big and bold

let's set out on a journey 

and keep all the treasures we can hold 

I've been hit with asteroids

dodged shooting stars 

nearly burned up in the atmosphere

and from home  I've too drifted far

I've crashed my spaceship so many times

pelted by the meteor storm that is life

and I know I'm quite lucky to be alive

in this glorious intangible time

trying to escape my soul

its light is bright and blinding

sometimes I lose control

there are light years or pain

there are galaxies of worry

there's a black hole engulfing it all

I look up at the sky 

as it slowly falls

how long can this haven last

it's all come crashing down in the past

I wait patiently for the apocalypse

but what if I'm the harbinger of death

I'll float listlessly in this solar system 

in this muddled distorted mess

theres a universe in here

try not to get lost

its limits are endless

and its legends star-crossed 

there's so much to be afraid of

and yet nothing to fear

there's an unfathomable void

there's a universe in here
