Lindsey has awoken early, it's about four o'clock in the morning. It's July 23rd, he along with Christine, Mick and John performed last night at the Park Theater at the Monte Carlo resort in Las Vegas. Lindsey thought this was the bands best performance yet of the tour, the audience really seemed to be into the new music.
So far his and Christine's new album Buckingham McVie has been well received by the critics and fans. Their shows are selling out, all should be well. In Lindsey's world it is not. To begin with Stevie wouldn't come into the studio and participate in the new album. This record was designed to be a Fleetwood Mac album all the way, Lindsey had counted on Stevie's harmonies on several songs.
When Stevie decided to extend her tour and not participate in the album devestated Lindsey. Her comments basically saying she had no desire to be in the studio with him hurt. He read between her lines that she didn't want to be around him period. He held up the production of the album as long as he could until he couldn't wait any longer. Ken Callait and the band finished the record up quickly and got it released in early June.
Lindsey had really hoped Stevie would attend one of the shows but so far he's had no luck. He really doesn't blame her, he was unable to go to any of her shows, even the Los Angeles concert. Kristen conveniently had plans for the family that night. Lindsey regrets that he didn't just blow off her plans and go to Stevie's show anyway. His stupid pride got in the way once again.
"If Stevie doesn't want to be around me, I don't want to be around her!"
That was the thought going through his head and it was a big lie. Lindsey really wishes he could be around her always. These are his thoughts as he sips his coffee and looks out over the Las Vegas Strip from his penthouse suite at the Aria resort.
Lindsey noticing very light traffic this early morning, the sun won't rise for another hour and a half or so. He decides that taking a drive through the desert might lift his spirits. He also knows the desert always reminds him of Stevie. When they where young and first moved to Los Angeles the two used to drive through the desert to Stevie's parents home in Phoenix often. They would roll the windows down and sing along to the radio as they drove. He remembers the feel of her fingers in his hair, the smell of her perfume throughout the car, the taste of her lips when they brushed up against his and the sound of her deep sexy voice in his ear telling him how much she loved him. Lindsey has taken many drives throughout the years through the desert in any direction just to reminisce about those times long ago.
Lindsey calls down to guest services and arranges for a Mustang convertible to be ready and waiting for him in a half hour. He takes a quick shower and dresses before heading down to the valet to get his car.
Lindsey takes the elevator down to the casino floor and walks out to the valet. He counts himself lucky, the casino is almost empty at this early hour and he makes it outside without any fans recognizing him. Lindsey hops in the Mustang and before he knows it, he's heading south on the Las Vegas Freeway on his way to the desert.
Lindsey puts the top down and let's the already warm desert air blow into his face and through his hair. There are strangly no cars traveling even considering the sun hasn't risen yet. Lindsey finds the quietness of the road almost unnerving. He turns on the radio and hears their song Dreams playing over the radio. Stevie's voice entrances him as he drives
Now here you go again
Saying you want your freedom
Well who am I to keep you down
Its only right you should play it
The way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost
And what you lost
And what you lost
