Chapter 7, folks!

I remember this story having about 14 chapters when I first uploaded it. There might be less now because I lengthened them a bit.

“Are you sure that you want to leave now?” my mom asked me as she handed me my bags for to put in the trunk.

“The answer is still the same as it was three hours ago mom.” I closed the trunk. “It would be too late to change my mind now anyway. My flight leaves in two hours and it’s a long drive to the airport.”

“You must call me the second you land.” She hugged me.

“I will mom.” I hugged her back. I saw her wet cheeks when she pulled back and wondered if she made my t-shirt wet on purpose.

“I still don’t know why you wanted to take a cab instead of have me drive you.”

“I don’t want you to get into an accident because of heart break.” I joked.

“That wasn’t funny Kai.” She gave me a stern look.

“I know. I’m sorry.” The cab driver honked at us. “I’ve really got to get going now. it’s only seven months mom. I’ll be home for Christmas.”

“I’ll have a pie in the oven then. As a welcome home treat.” She gave me a weak smile. “Take care of yourself Kai.”

“Don’t worry mom. I learnt from the best.”

I got into the cab and closed the door behind me. I waved at my mom and then told the driver to go. I looked back and saw that my mom was walking down the street after me. she stopped as I reached the end of the road and then she was out of sight.

I sighed and relaxed further into the seat. It wouldn’t be too long now. I just had to handle everything in stride and not lose my focus.

An hour later I was at the check in counter just finishing up my checking in before I went to the waiting area.

My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pulled it out to reveal a text message from Rona.

Sam’s on her way to the airport. Held her off for as long as I could. You’re on your own now buddy. And have a safe flight.

My eyes widened as I read the message over and over again. I did that about five times before it actually kicked in. Sam was coming to the airport? How did she even find out? I started to panic. My breaths were short and came out fast. I turned my head and saw Sam walking towards me.

“Sam, fancy seeing you here.” I said awkwardly.

“Cut the crap Kai. This is not the time for jokes.” She both looked and sounded angry. “When were you planning on telling me that you were leaving? After you were already settled on the other side and enjoying your life?”

“Sam I’m sorry. I didn’t know how to tell you.” I stood up.

“You could have just said it as it was. I probably wouldn’t have been as mad as I am now.” she was definitely fuming. If it was possible, I was sure that smoke would be coming out of her nose.
