After the encounter with Jinx's overbearing fiancée, the two travelers had decided that going on the rest of the night was next to impossible. After a moment of looking around, Jinx spotted a cave. "Lyra, I'm a little too tired to fight off any wild animals. Do you think you could put your heightened senses to see if there's anything dangerous in that cave?" Lyra lifted her head from his shoulder sleepily and yawned. "Yeah, sure." Getting off his back, Lyra crept to the entrance of the cave and listened carefully. Not a sound could be heard. She sniffed the air. It smelled like mildew and dried leaves, the smell of abandonment. "It's clear. Been abandoned for a while now." She called to Jinx.

Looking up at the sky, Lyra realized that the sun was already disappearing over the horizon. Trembling, she ran up to Jinx. "H-hey, why don't we get a fire started inside? Yeah! A nice bright fire!" She exclaimed hurriedly. Jinx smirked at her. "Oh? What's the hurry? You aren't afraid of the dark are you?" The fox looked down in embarrassment. "Please..." It was barely visible in the dimming light, but Jinx saw tears welling in her eyes.

Using the dry leaves in the cave, the two had started a small, bright yet controllable fire in the cave. The sun had completely vanished by then, and the only light was the eerie illumination of the full moon. All of a sudden, he heard howling. Wolves, and they were close. Lyra inched closer to Jinx, trembling with tears threatening to spill at any moment.

He pulled her into his chest and set his head on hers, whispering quietly, "I won't ever let anything hurt you....I'll make sure to protect you until the day I die.." Pulling back a little, he looked down and dried her eyes. "Where's that bubbly happy go lucky girl I've grown to know and love? Come on. I'll buy you some cake if you smile for me." She immediately looked up at him and faked a smile.

"You wanna tell me why your so afraid of wolves miss fox?" "Not really...." "Alright, fine." Standing up, he headed towards the opening of the cave. "I'll be back. You just sit here and relax." Lyra nodded and pressed herself into a corner. Walking to the entrance of the cave, Jinx dusted himself off. "Lets get a hostage to explain."
