Hospital Mayhem Pt9

          Lights flashed and all sorts of sirens went off. Preston Had an oxygen mask on, and his vision came and went. The staff tried to keep him awake as they rush into the emergency room. Preston saw Liz be rushed in the other direction; he tried with all his might to call out, but the pain was to excruciating to even talk. Everything went black. Preston lay  in a bed with cords coming out of him, three different casts, and an oxygen mask covering his mouth and nose. He hadn't woken up yet. He was in the critical care unit, blocked off from everyone else.

      Liz woke up to find that she had shattered her wrist and cracked her collar bone. She sat up and rubbed her head. All her thoughts were scattered; she couldn't focus on anything but the pain. The last thing she could remember was... Preston! Were is he! Please God let him be alive!, Liz thought frantically. She jumped out of bed and winced at the pain. She looked behind her into a mirror to find that she had stitches on her back and arms. She used her IV as a cane and walked through the halls. A nurse stopped her." Ma'am, you can't leave your room. You just suffered from a two story fall and deep cuts from glass,"she said as she tried to turn Liz around. "Were is he?" Liz asked forcefully. "Who?" the nurse questioned. "Preston! Preston Viper!" Tears started to fill Elizabeth's eyes," I need to know he's okay." The nurse looked confused and then it hit her," Do you mean Arnold Viper? The guy you came here with?" Liz looked completely discombobulated,"His name is Preston." The nurse pulled out a clip board and lifted up a paper, "Well Arnold is on his birth certificate and we have no sign of him changing it." Liz contemplated this for a minute and gave a small smile. He was embarrassed by his name. That's adorable, Liz thought. "Can I please see him?" Liz pleaded. "What, is he your boyfriend?" the nurse asked as she pushed Liz's arm a little, playfully. She instantly regretted doing that because Liz groaned with pain shortly after. "Yes, he is. Now let me see him," Liz said with no hesitation. The nurse looked around for witnesses," Okay, come with me."

       The nurse opened the door. Elizabeth's eyes fell onto Preston and immediately filled with tears. She quickly shuffled across the room and sat in a chair next to his bed. "When will he wake up?" Liz asked as she stroked his scaly cheeks with the fingers that stuck out of her cast. "We have idea. I'm sorry," the nurse replied solemnly. "It's not your fault, so don't be sorry. He did this trying to protect me, so," she took a deep breath in wiped away falling tears even though new ones replaced them quickly," It's my fault." The nurse said she would give them some privacy. "I'm so sorry, Preston. You should be in class, not paying attention. I should be barely alive... Why did you have to jump after me? Why do you care so much for me? We're in middle school for god's sake. Most humanimals just get acne and shoved into a locker occasionally. I wouldn't care if it were just me, but they messed with you and- wait a minute. Ashley hired a hit man! To kill me! That little Mother F- calm down. I need to go take care of this. I love you," Liz had a one way conversation then kissed his forehead.

      She staggered to her room and put on her school uniform, the only clothes she had, and started to leave. Who she found in the main hall stopped her instantly. "Mom?" Liz said," What are you doing here?" "What do you mean 'what am I doing here'? When I get a call saying my daughter fell out a window, I come straight away. Why are you up?" her mom said hysterically. "But Mom, I didn't just fall out of the window! Ashley's boyfriend threw me out of it! That's why it's shattered!" Liz explained. "Excuse me? Did you just say someone tried to... kill you?" Karin asked. Elizabeth nodded. "I love you, but you have to know that's hard to believe," Karin said with her arms hanging at her side. "Mom, I have to go fix this. If you're not with me, then don't come. But it would be great to have someone that believed in me right now," Liz said as she walked past. "Why did we move to this town. (small laugh) I'm with you. Come on." Karin said as she helped her daughter out the door without being noticed.  

     Liz carefully put on her seat belt to avoid it chafing her stitches. They drove to the school and went to the front office. "Excuse me, Ms Principal lady, but my daughter was almost murdered and I would like you to have the cops arrest those responsible," Karin said in a harsh tone.  Mrs. Bamboo, the principal (also a panda),  sat back in her chair with a spectacle face. "You're telling me that not only was there a fight in my school, but an attempt at murder," the principal said. "Yes ma'am," Liz answered. She could see the principal wasn't having any of it," I'll show you the window! I'll show you the students! Just believe that this happened!" Mrs. Bamboo got up and gestured for Liz to lead the way. Liz nodded and began to walk up the stairs.
