the day was winding down to an end, and he was just waiting till it was five thirty: closing time.
closing time was always the best time.
he stood there at the counter, tapping his foot impatiently as he stared down the hands on the clock, moving much too slowly for his liking.
he saw a customer walk inside the store, and instantly put on his usual smile. he was always friendly to people and always had a bright shining smile on his face.
"what could i get you today, sir?" he asked, ready to type in the order at any second.
"sir is too fancy," he mumbled under his breath. "anyway, uh, i just want a strawberry banana smoothie."
"alrighty, one strawberry banana smoothie it is. that will be-"
"oh yeah, no milk."
"no milk?" he asked with a confused face. "milk is the best part!" he exclaimed with a small laugh.
the other boy seemed to be unamused.
"no, it isn't when it causes splash mountain to come out of your fucking ass," he replied nonchalantly.
the boy just looked at the customer with a surprised look and then let out an uncomfortable laugh.
"right, right. uh, lactose intolerant?"
"what else would it be? also, i want a large."
"i don't know, you could be some crazy vegan. that'll be $8.49, please."
the other boy snorted. "a vegan? ha, you have to be kidding me."
the boy with mint hair handed the cashier a ten dollar bill and waited for his change.
he handed the customer his change with a smile, their hands brushing against one another's for a brief moment.
he turned around and started to make the smoothie
he first grabbed a clean blender and headed for the strawberries. he cut them up into several different pieces and tossed them into the blender. next, he chopped up one banana into fourths and threw them with the other ingredient. he then added a little bit of apple juice and finally some ice cubes. finally, he put the lid on and mixed it all together with a smile on his face.
once he had mixed it long enough, grabbed a large cup and poured it in, the sight of the smoothie falling into the container being oddly satisfying.
he put the plastic lid on and turned around to hand it to the boy, noticing he was leaned against the wall and staring off in the distance. maybe even staring at something specifically.
"here you go!" he cheered with a smile. "i hope you enjoy!"
the other boy snapped out of his daze and walked to the counter.
"you're really perky, aren't you?" he asked with a raised eyebrow, taking one of the many red plastic straws in a container.
the boy let out a loud laugh, causing the mint haired one to flinch. "i don't think so? maybe?"
"yes. yes you are," he replied as he took a sip of the smoothie.
before the cashier could say anything else to him, he spun on his heel and walked out of the store.
that was only one day of many that the two of them came face to face.
that boy always ordered the same thing so much that he remembered his order. the moment he would step inside that store, he would already get the fruit prepared.
"why do you always order the same thing?" he asked one day.
he just shrugged. "i just really love strawberry banana smoothies."
