I kept on glancing at Cataleya’s way, keeping track at her whereabouts. She seems okay to me. She’s so adorable looking at the paintings around her. I know for a fact that she was having a great time right now, lost in her own artistic world. Pero hindi pa rin ako mapalagay. It is as if there is something that is going to happen, but for the love of my life, I can’t seem to get my finger on it. And my guts told me to guard her thoroughly tonight.
Another minute passed and I was caught up with the discussion around me, temporarily distracting me. When I glanced at her way, she was having a chat with a beautiful woman. I think I saw her before. I tried to remember her name and got lost in my own thoughts.
“Hey, man! May problema ba? Bakit parang natulala ka na diyan? Hindi naman mawawala si Cathe. Kita mo na, she’s right there. There’s no need to worry, man!” sabi ni Rence. “You are whipped beyond redemption!” natatawang sabi niya.
“Quit it, man! That is not funny!” saway ko sa kanya. “Do you happen to know who she’s talking to?”
“She’s just talking with Raquel Bach. All I know is that she’s the president of a real estate company. Bihira siyang mag-public appearance. She lets her VP handle all the company dealings but right now I think Micheal, her VP, is MIA kaya siya ang nandito. Why the sudden interest?” takang pagtatanong niya. “You like her too?”
“No! I just want to know who Cataleya associates with. It’s not that she’s not attractive, but I’m more concern with Cataleya,” prankang sagot ko.
“No comment,” ang tanging nasabi niya at bumalik na kami sa aming discussion. Ilang sandali pa ay nagpaalam na si Raquel kay Cataleya at naiwan siya para pag-aralan ang isang sculpture.
Sa muling pagsulyap ko sa kanya ay hindi na siya nag-iisa. Kausap niya ang isa sa pinakaiinisan kong lalaki sa buhay ko. Si Jacob Zachary Castiglioni, ang Mr. Perfect ni Cataleya. Siya lang talaga ang pinagselosan ko ng todo noong magkasama pa kami sa France. For her, he is the ultimate ‘dream man’, every woman’s fantasy. Mr. Gorgeous Architect pa nga ang tawag sa kanya. I am not an architect but I am definitely gorgeous in my own dashing way.
God, I really hate him! Why is he here?
“Of course, he will be here. He’s a businessman, isn’t he?” singit ni Rence sa daloy ng pag-iisip ko.
Did I say that out loud?
“Yes, you did stupid!” muling sagot niya.
“I am not stupid, stupid!” I retorted, turning my attention to him.
“Hey! I’m not stupid!” he said defensively.
“Okay! So, no calling anyone stupid. Let’s just leave it at that. I’m just pissed at somebody right now,” nanggigigil na sabi ko sa kanya.
“Better be someone else than me, right? Pero bakit ka nga ba galit kay Castiglioni? As far as I know, wala naman tayong naging corporate rivalry against his company. Magkaiba tayo ng market at bihira tayong magkasama sa ganitong klase ng gathering,” he asked curiously. Wala siyang alam sa lihim ng inis ko sa kanya. “If you can kindly enlighten me, I’ll greatly appreciate it.”
