"Back so soon?"

"Yes," Yami Atharos replied to his companion - Velvet Lanteen,"I gained one of the things that I sought."

"Which was?" Velvet asked curiously, rolling on her maroon-furred back. Her stripped tail swished vigorously as her ears perked," and I want a tummy rub while you explain."

Yami Atharos smiled and made his way over, sitting on the blood red couch that was placed in the lively room of his residence and pulled the kitty into his lap with her facing him. He began to gingerly stroke the feline's pink underbelly, minding his fingernails which were indeed, long. About half an inch on each finger.

Vampires' fingernails grew extensionally faster than the average human; the only way to keep them tamed was to bite on them. Of course it was disgusting, and Yami hated it greatly, but metal nail clippers weren't strong enough to break them. And since the bite of a vampire is also stronger and more effective than the average human, a vampire could easily bite the nail and it would snap off. But most of the species needed to cut their nails ever so often.

"I gained a kiss from him."

Velvet continued to purr as she opened a faded emerald eye," Oh? Is that what you sought?"

"One of the things." Yami laid his head back, though continuing to pet his cat,"his lips were so intoxicating." He swooned at the thought, and suddenly that delightfully savoring taste bubbled back to his mouth. It tasted like the finest of wines, and sweetest dew of dawn.

"If his kiss was so delicious, I can only imagine what his blood might taste like." Velvet yelped when Yami's fingers scratched her sensitive underside.

"What are you hinting at, Manning?" His eyes shrunk to dangerous slits; a sign that indicates jealously..or other hazardous annotations. The vampire didn't like people touching what was his.

"I'm not the vampire in this relationship; I couldn't sip blood even if I wanted to." With a scowl, Velvet squirmed on her belly and took delicate steps towards the other side of the couch,"It's revolting. Yuck."

The vampire exhaled, relieved that the cat had no interest in his Aibou.

"I apologize. I think the hunger is getting to me." The elder vampire rubbed his forehead, throwing back the hood of his darkened cloak. He blinked rapidly at the new level of lighting, trying his best to adjust. He hadn't eaten in the lapse of four days; the loss of blood was affecting his abilities.

You see, my dear readers, vampires like Yami Atharos have to survive off of the red resource. Being as it may, if the vampire doesn't fulfill his need for blood on its on schedule, the creature's abilities start to weakened. This is why the mortal boy could escape Yami's hold. But...I think you would want to read the story of the vampire more than listen to me explain the routine of a vampire, wouldn't you?

"You're lucky I'm your friend," Velvet started with a triumphant smirk," I brought you dinner." She licked his cheek kindly when the vampire wrapped his arms around the cat,"where would I be without you?"

"You'd be dead, you idiot. Now go eat."

Releasing the female feline from his grip, he rushed to the basement. Soft cries were audible from below, and it excited the vampire even more. Feeding was always a thrill; to see his victim screaming for freedom made a shiver dance down his spine. This time, it was boy. A boy with beautiful green hair, magenta eyes of wonder. He cried out for his mother in the farthest corner from the door.

"Hello there, Little One," Yami Atharos started casually, careful not to spook the boy anymore than he already was," what's wrong? Why do you cry for your mother?"
