Chapter 2. Home sweet home

FENTON  HOUSEHOLD, MINNESOTA, AMITY PARK, USA

IN THE CAR

When Sophie woke up from her nap, the landscape outside the car window changed noticeably. Instead of the green trees lining the streets, there were tall buildings all around.

"Sophie? Are you awake?" Vladimir's voice shook Sophie out of her sleep-induced hazy state.

She hummed in response, nodding her head.

"Look at the building on your side, it's my university, where I met the Fentons and became a halfa."

"And the building on your side, Dad? What is it?" Sophie asked, being curious as always.

"That is Casper High, the school where you'll go when fall comes around. The Fenton kids study here, so you have the opportunity to have some friends. Down the street, there's a diner, called 'the Nasty Burger'. All teens go there for lunch on weekends or just to hang out."

Sophie looked around for a while, until she noticed a big brick building with a giant neon sign, reading 'FENTON WORKS', and blurted out a question without even thinking about it.

"Is that the Fenton's house?" she asked, and immediately slapped a hand on her mouth.

"Yes, it is. Do you want to go and meet them now?"

"No, I prefer getting to know them later, Dad. Right now I just want to go home."

"Alright, sweetie. The mansion is just down the road."

The rest of the drive was silent until the gigantic Masters' Mansion came into view, and Sophie gasped in astonishment.

"Like it?" Vlad asked his daughter.

She perked up, eyebrows raised and mouth gaping.

"Like it? I love it!" She exclaimed.

"Wait 'till you see your wing of the mansion, darling. You're going to be shocked for a week."

He said, a smug smirk on his face.

"I'll have my OWN wing of the mansion?!" She exclaimed, astounded.
"Yes, sweetheart, you will. Your wing will have four bedrooms with en-suites, one of them being your room, the other ones are guest rooms. Plus there's an office where you and your friends can study, a 'sleepover' room complete with a flat-screen TV, a gaming console, beanbags, mattresses, and pillows."

"Wow... How could you live here all alone? It's a  bit creepy living all alone in a mansion so big!"

"Well, I ain't all alone, darling. You're here, and before you moved in with me there was, and there still is Maddie."

"But- wasn't Maddie a Fenton?" Sophie's pretty face was scrunched up in confusion.

"Yes, but this 'Maddie' I'm talking about isn't a human."

"She's a ghost?!"

"No, no. Maddie's a cat, Sophie." Vlad's laughter echoed in the hall of Sophie's wing of the mansion.

"A cat?! I knew you were a softie, dad, but I didn't know you were it 'till this stage!" Sophie's giggles could be heard all around the house, shrill and joyous, and Vlad joined in the laughter.
Vladimir stopped at a dark purple-bluish door and leaned on the wall near it.

"This is your room, sweetie.  You can decorate it with your powers if you wish."

Sophie opened the door and froze in astonishment.

"Whoa..." She breathed out. "It's – I don't even – I can't even describe how cool this is!" She sputtered, waving her arms all around.

"Glad you like it, sweetie. If you need anything, don't hesitate to use your powers to track me, alright?"
