The rest of the week was pretty uneventful, just crazy busy. I was helping with a few different videos, helping with both big and small stuff, which made me really glad for Friday.
There was also the fact Eugene and I hadn't been able to discuss what the date meant, and I really wanted to do that. It was clear we were closer, no one just knew why. Ned knew about the date and how it went, but he knew as much as I did. I didn't want to get Keith or Zach's hopes up for it to have just been one date and nothing to come of it. Though, if he didn't feel anything, it would make more sense for him to back off, right?
Men could be confusing, and I just decided to wait to see what he said.
He wasn't at his desk when I got a moment, so I decided to send him an email asking if he wanted to grab a bite after work. I guess he had his phone with him, and I got a reply a few minutes later saying sure and that he would meet me downstairs when we were done.
The one bad part about doing it after work meant I had a few hours to stress myself out about it and get in my own head. Luckily there was still plenty to be done that I could try and distract myself from it.
It felt like a blink of the idea, and my phone went off giving me the ten-minute warning, an alarm I had set so I could try to get out of the office on time; not that it always worked, especially during the week...
I finished off what I was working on, sent any final emails before getting up to pack up for the weekend. The nerves came back as I headed downstairs. I smiled softly as I saw him waiting, even if I was trying to keep my hands from shaking like a leaf. "Ready to go?" I asked as I went over to him.
We picked a restaurant down the street so we didn't have to drive anywhere. Luckily grabbing food was normal enough that there weren't a lot of questions or awkward moments of him wondering what this was about while we tried to decide what to order. Of course, I was still being a nervous wreck, but I was pretty good at hiding it - or he was too distracted by food to notice.
Once we ordered, however, it was time to suck it up and discuss it before I lost my nerve. "So, uh, there was actually something I wanted to talk to you about," I commented, nervously.
He rose a brow. "And here I thought it was just because you wanted my lovely company," he teased lightly. "What's up?"
The urge to roll my eyes at him was back, something that was frequent with him. "We never really talked about what the date meant or where to go from there," I explained.
"Well, I know I enjoyed myself, and I'd be interested in it happening again, if you would," he replied. Always very blunt and never beating around the bush, which was one of my favorite things.
I smiled softly, flushing some. "I would too," I told him, reaching over to take his hand. "So, I mean, I'm not asking for exclusivity, but if someone were to asking, would I say we're friends, or dating, or...?" I trailed off, wanting us to be on the same page.
"Exclusivity is definitely something that should wait a few more dates," he agreed. "But as for now, the idea of dating sounds most accurate," he answered.
"So is this a date, or do we need to plan our second?" I brought up, raising a brow. Of course, if he wanted to call this a date and plan a third, I wouldn't complain...
"Well, we are alone, and it's kinda date-like, so it could be if you wanted it to be?" he offered, raising a brow in return.
"Sounds good to me. Means I don't have to wait impatiently for the second," I teased, grinning at him, making him laugh. "You watch anime, don't you? You didn't seem new to it during the Cosplay Try Guys episodes," I clarified, despite the fact we already established seeing past his nationality last week.
He nodded. "Not super frequently, but I do like it and watch it when I have time and find something to catch my interest," he replied, giving me a look that told me he had no idea where this random question came from. A lot of times, people couldn't keep track of the way my mind worked, and how the train of thought went.
"Well, if you're up for it, we should do a Studio Ghibli marathon for date number 3," I suggested, taking a sip of my drink. Yeah, thinking about the third date while on the second may be a bit weird, but oh well, who wants to be normal?
"Can we eat pizza and stuff while we do?" he prompted.
I laughed softly at that. "Of course. Just fair warning, watching anime makes me want boba, so we may have to either get that first, or Postmates some in," I commented.
"Mm. See, if we weren't getting food now, I'd say let's do that tonight. Plus it may be better to start that early, and not be exhausted during it.." he pointed out, which seemed like a fair assessment.
I thought about it while our food came and waited for the waitress to leave. "If you want, we could do it tomorrow or Sunday. You can come over to my place if you want. I could come grab you and we could stop and get pizza, junk food and boba on the way back, and spend the whole day on the couch with Hayao Miyazaki and his characters," I suggested.
"Sounds like a perfect way to spend a Saturday. Cute girl, Ghibli, great food.." he flirted with that cheeky smile of his that made me both want to roll my eyes and blush.
"It's a date"
Meanwhile, the second date went well. It wasn't a whole lot different than when we regularly hung out for food, except a little hand holding. The main difference was just walking back to the office.
He'd bought dinner too, despite my protesting that I could take care of at least my part. We went out, and started toward the office. He reached down and interlaced our fingers while we walked. It was different, but a good different and it felt right. One of those cliches of "our hands fit perfectly" popped into my head.
Eugene walked me to my car, and I leaned against it as I smiled up at him. "Date number three tomorrow, yeah?" I confirmed.
"Yep. I'll text you the address when I get home. I know of some good places for tea and pizza near me," he agreed, both our hands intertwined at our sides, there not being much distance. I knew what would be coming by his body language, it was just a matter of when. "Text me to let you know you got home safe?" he asked.
I nodded. "I'd ask you to do the same, but you just said you'd send me the address when you got home, so..."I said, letting out a small laugh.
"Yeah, you'll kinda know when you get that text," he teased. "Drive safe," he said but didn't pull away. Instead, he closed the distance and gently pressed his lips to mine. Just as amazing as always, and I responded immediately. Oh, he would make it so hard to behave myself. He let my hands go, resting them on my hips and I rested mine on his chest, fine with it lingering for a little bit. After a minute or two, he pulled back some, gave me one more peck, before giving us some more distance. He reached over to open my door for me.
I leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Goodnight, Eugene."
"Goodnight, beautiful."
